so that... cap thingy that would fit in front of the bulb in the OEM headlight broke off, and is jingling around inside my headlight.

it is also sealed. is this bad? or should I just live w/it?

Check it out at night...

It makes a bad headlight....worse.

Just remove the ring around the headlight and take off the lens.

Then figure out how to get the little piece back in place.

I did that. and the rest of the headlight is sealed. I can see one leg where that cap used to be attached to the bulb housing, because it's still in place. the rest of it is lying 'round on the bottom of the headlight.

at the very least, I've got a dry clutch simulator  [laugh] [roll]

guess I'm going to start checking FS for another headlight

ok. round 2!

do all the headlights have that little parking light under the H4 bulb? or is that a 'new' monster thing? right now I'm assuming that all monsters have the same headlight.

or, I suppose this is a perfect excuse to run aftermarket... hmmmm.

Thanks to an overzealous friend with a power washer, I ended up with a headlight half full of water.

Removed the ring, then the lens,  and dried everything out.

Probably why mine came apart so easy.

It was sitting in a parking lot in direct sunlight... sure warms up that housing!

Nope, it just looks like it's sealed - all those little bits of wire around the outside edge you can see when you look at the back of the reflector and funny shaped springs that hold it all together. Gently lift one out and it'll become obvious how it all works...

Definitely not "new", my '99 M750 has it, and the late 70's/early 80's BMWs that use the same Bosch part numbers for the headlights had 'em too.

Might be worth a trip to TOB for the OEM parts thread in Tech to find out how to order the bits from a BMW dealer at a _lot_ less than Ducati charge for the whole assembly...

big (and if you find those part numbers, post em up here, OK?

she'll come apart.

so what you're saying is that w/enough heat and coersion, the glass front and fiber back sections will come apart?

although, once I extract said broken piece, the headlight will cease to be usefull, since that cappy bit acts as some sort of reflector.

???
