Well. the first time i went down, my leg wasnt burned cause i was wearing boots. This time i wasnt. Went down and my foot landed right on the curved part of my front exahust. How hot is that part? I assume its the HOTTEST part. My foot was on it for more than 2 seconds at MOST.  The first thing i did was lift my foot of the exahust then figure away to get head that was wedged between the car my bike and the pavement.

Anyway, its been about 3 days, the first day it was all white. now it looks like this. Sad sorry guys, i cant go out or do anything since i cant walk with shoes (it keeps pinching the wound) so you get the nice gross pics. I used an exacto knife to cut most of the edge of the skin, the rest is stuck on my header pipe. there were also some stray hairs that were never burned off so i had to pluck them out (the most painful process) theres a few more rogue hairs that i want to pluck but that particular area is very sensitive right now so ill leave it when i feel like self mutilating myself.

WEAR BOOTS even if its tims or whatever, just wear boots.  Aside from twisting ankles, it also protects you from nasty burns!

If you DO get burned, from the 2 nurses i spoke to, to prevent scaring, clean it with saline solution and water. Peroxide kills of new skin cells. Make sure its stays moist to prevent scabbing (which leaves scar tissue) and wash it often. The yellow fluidis called an eschar which is a coagultion of tissue proteins that form on the surface. Its kinda like a scab, except scabs are collection of dead skin cells.

Nurse said it looks like a 3rd degree burn. A 3rd degree burn is a burn that is below the dermis from what she said, and  i lost all feeling in most of the burned area so im prettyyyyy sure its below the dermis. LOL.

Anyone have any burn tips? I used Bacatrin for the first few days and now im just letting it heal on its own.

Sorry to hear about the wreck man.  How's the bike?

Be sure to keep that thing dressed for the majority of your day, but let it air out for a while in the evening.  Sit down and watch some tv with a beer while it airs, just make sure you dress it again before you to to bed.  Oh, and you may want to just shave the surrounding area right now, otherwise all the hair is just gonna get ripped out (ask me how I know Grin).  Once you start to get the feeling back in that area, it's gonna itch like hell.  Slapping always helped me with that.  Good luck!

Broken Guages is all. The guage itself didnt break ,the rubber boots did.

Heres more pics. I took some of that yellow fluid and threw it under a microscope.

Im gonna see if i can get some of the new skin cells onto the slide and compare it to dead skin cells. brb!

Nope, cannot for hte life of me find skin cells even if i scrap the tissue. Sad ok nothign to see here move on.

Do yourself a favor and keep it covered at ALL TIMES.  You should only allow air to get to the wound during dressing changes, which should be done once per day in the begining, and then every other day as the healing progresses.  Keeping the wound covered helps to keep moisture in the healing tissue, which will keep it supple and thus minimize scarring, ugly scab formation, actually speeding healing.  Also, neosporin (sp?) helps.

Good Luck, glad you are OK.

in the voice of joe from familyguy (the crippled dude).

SKINCELLS!!!!!!

The black specs are from a ground plant (herbal medicine). i have some bactrin on it right now. Overall, you can see a layer of skin building up from the bottom of the foot. that area is getting somewhat sensitive. I can feel a qtip run through it where as before i felt absolutely nothing. I think im healing up pretty darn quickly. it stopped oozing out that yellow fluid when i put the herbal medicine on.

Got hurt last wednesday and is now monday. so its only been 5 days. its very difficult to walk right now since every step i take stretches the wound/new skin cells.

Please do the following:

1.  Go to your doctor.
2.  As for a prescription for Silvadene.
3.  Keep your wound covered at all times.  The order of dressings should be: Silvadene, burn dressing of petroleum jelly treated gauze (I think it's a J&J product), regular gauze, whatever wrap will keep it on there (Ace bandage, sticky wrap, whatever)
4.  Change your dressing twice a day.  Toss the burn dressing and gauze on top of it.  You can reuse the outer barrier as long as it hasn't seeped through.

You will heal MUCH more quickly if you do this.  I am not a medical professional.  I have just had to treat a few burns on myself in my life.  This is very serious, and from the photos it looks like you're getting an infection.  You can wind up with some ugly things if you let this go.

Good tips. very...very good tips. Except i dont have a doctor or med insurance. Ill look up what silvadene is and see if there is an alternative. It is indeed infected, and i am taking antibiotics right now. right now my dressing is a voodoo burn medicine, bacitrin and guage +sticky stretch wrap.

The infection started the day i took that pic. I left the wound open for a few hours for comfort. I must of sneezed on it or walked by something. My ankle got swollen that night pretty bad. It is going down now though.

edit: looked it up, turns out only OTA alternative to Silvadene is bacitrin (which is the strongest ota antibiotic topical creme you can buy). Ill give it a day or two to see how the swelling goes. If not, i used to work at a hospital, so i might be able to get one of the guys to get some of that stuff....its just a matter of how im suppose to get there seeing im walkiing at the pace of a very old brittle man. =p

It is very very very important that you NEVER leave your wound uncovered, except the short time to change your dressings.  Your skin is your body's ONLY barrier against infection.  After that, it's up to your immune system to do battle.  You have no skin on that spot right now, so you need to provide a septic barrier for your body at that spot.  If you start seeing the swelling creep up your leg, if any of your blood vessels starts turning red, you start seeing red streaks coming from the area, or if you start running a fever, go to the ER right away.  Any of those symptoms is a sign that your body is losing the fight, and you'll need emergency care right away to avoid potentially losing your foot (or more).

+1 on the Silvadene, it's the closest burn treatment to magic.

Insurance or no, get to a doctor.  Even if you have to wait for hours at the free clinic.  If that gets infected the infection can quickly travel to your blood stream and then you'll be really sick.

I fried my arm on the exhaust of my dirt bike 24 years ago.  Third and second degree burns.  Yours looks like third.  I still have nasty scars and limited feeling in that patch of skin.  Silvadene is good stuff.  It helps dissolve the dead tissue and helps the healing process.  I don't think it's expensive but you need to get a prescription.  I'd stay away from herbal type remedies.  With a third degree burn whatever is in there can get stuck in the new tissue that's growing, a serious infection risk.  Keep it covered at all times except when changing the dressing.  Go see a doc.

Scott_araujo, Whats wrong with herbal remedies? this powder being herbal will just be absorbed and broken down by the body. other then that, yea i cant feel much in that area any more which isnt that big of a deal, think of it like this, its one less unimportant spot to itch. Tongue

The day i got an infection, was the day i left the wound open for a few hours and just did bacitrician without dressing it. I woudlnt say i was sick, but my ankle was swollen, and my calf was stiff. After reading Ducatisa's post about changing the dressing twice. I went back to the burn powder (which was an herbal medicine, it is suppose to be used for 7 days straight). And with the help of anti biotics all swelling is gone now and i can pretty much walk normal(aside from the fact that my shoe bumps the wound, so im walking around with my heel sticking out of my shoe, how do you girls wear heels....i dont know) The new skin has already covered the burn site and im just waiting for my body to cover it all up which shouldn't be too long.

I saw the RN at school who said the wound looks like its healing up well right now and theres no sign of infection. Just clean it with water and soap or saline solution, and keep bacitirician on it, change dressing every 12 hours and i should be fine.  I asked about silvadene and she said it would of been great to have that from the start, but it probably wouldnt be any better than what she recommended.

I wish i could of showed you guys a pic of what the burn powder did when i put it on with the infection. It litterally sucked this yellow pussing goo out. :-x im still using it, and the kind of pain you go through when you first apply it, rivals that of any pain ive ever felt including a broken skull, root canal, and a kick in the nuts. Probably not worth it when compared to modern drugs like silvadene.

Thanks to all the recommendations guys! Looks like i got away with this one so far. Ill update if anything strange happens like my foot falls off.

Herbal remedies are not FDA approved and may not be made to USP specs, so they may not be sterile and may contain things you don't want right up against your blood stream.  If you remove your skin, which a 3rd degree burn does, and then pack the wound with germy herbs they can go right into your blood stream.  Blood poisoning and infections anywhwere your blood travels (everywhere) can ensue.  A third degree burn is very serious and I wouldn't be using that stuff right now.

Stick with Silvadine, antisceptic gels, or sterile Vaseline if you're allergic to the ointments.  Many of the ointments (Bacitracin, Neosporin) are mostly Vaseline with antibiotics added.  The antibiotics can cause allergic skin reactions in some people.  The petroleum jelly alone still forms a nice barrier against germs but keeps the wound from drying out so no scab, faster healing, and less scarring.  Since you're growing new skin you want silvadine, a gel antisceptic, or petroleum jelly against the wound, otherwise your new skin can grow into the bandage and get pulled off when you change the dressing.  Silvadine serves this purpose nicely.

All this said, I'm not a doctor and it's your body.  This is just my opinion.
