Ahh i get what your saying. Its just that my mom is a doctor and practiced for over 20 years in China (licensed in communist china if that counts for anything, but not here since she cant speak english well) and its the way i was brought up. The burn powder is designed to be an antibiotic that promotes new skin for any type of open surface wound.

As per a dressing, i had that exact problem of pulling off the new skin. But i went to the local pharamcy and picked up this non stick dressingt which is making life much easier. Not sure if its something new, but by god, it saves a lot of paiin in taking of the old  dressing. it comes off without any issue (aside from ripping my hair out)

Rotten Randy...
Are you suggesting brushed aluminum look on my skin?Huh? this could be a new mod!

Hey, He Man.  I think I sold you the disc lock alarm.  Did it work out for you?

I wish I would have seen this earlier. Ducatista had the best remedy: Silvadene. Petroleum products are a no no when dealing with burns. Silvadene actually contains silver which acts as an antibiotic and the base keeps moisture in the wound. Keep it covered...

My bad Nakid, I thought petroleum jelly was inert.  And yes, those non-stick dressings are what you want.  Pulling off skin you spent all day growing hurts and defeats the process.

Your school must of been rich to even have oregano on pizza.  Shocked

The skin around the burn site has grown back and now is itching like a son of a pregnant dog.

Itching accompanies healing, so if it doesn't look infected you're probably doing alright.  Over the next few weeks that cricle of skin will keep moving inward and the open sore will get smaller.  Most other folks with third degree burns have had similar experiences to mine.  The new skin is thin and a bit brittle, and thin pieces flake off all the time for weeks or months.  Eventually it gets thicker and more flexible and stops flaking so much.  You probably won't have any surface sensation in that area for a long time, if ever.  Mine was 25 years ago and I still don't feel much.

If I get the time I'll try to post a pic of my scar.  It looked just like yours when it was fresh, minus the oregano Wink

Silvadene is actually a homeopathic remedy that became mainstream.  I think it's funny that you call it a "modern" drug.  Using silver preparations have been in use for a very long time, certainly longer than antibiotics.  The main reason why it only comes in a prescription is because it is used to treat serious burns, which you have, and you should ALWAYS see a doctor IMMEDIATELY when treating serious burns.  Just the fact that your ankle swelled and your calf became tight means that your body almost succumbed to the infection, and you were about this close |<->| to having a mandatory ER visit with sepsis.  You're one lucky person.  I appreciate your mother's knowledge, but I wouldn't put anything on a burn that isn't USP.

Not bad!  If you want the scar to be less noticeable, check out products like Mederma.  Make sure you also have full flexibility in your ankle since that scar tissue isn't nearly as elastic as the original skin and that's a pretty big scar.

infection can quickly travel to your blood stream and then you'll be really sick.

1+  I was hospitalized for 'Cellulitis' caused by a little scratch on my foot that got infected.  Ended up with a swollen, infected foot bigger then a football and almost lost it.  I would go to the doctor at the first sign of infection.  Just my 2 cents...
