vinyl wrap is almost done! the only thing i didn't do was the little part above the top triple. i'll do that this weekend when i install my new handlebars!
i think the vinyl looks perfect!

I so want to wrap my forks black. I don't think I could do it though and not mess it up.

You said you are in OK, right?  Damn, too far....

here are a few pics in the garage with the dp rear sprocket, ek black & silver chain, and m3 bars. you can see the position of the bars pretty good in the first & second pic...

Sooooo jealous on all the blacked out parts.  Would look great on my matte black 696.

Awesome job you are doing.

Curious, you doing all the work except the painting?

I stumbled onto this forum in my search to feed my impatience while I wait for my new 696 to arrive. I though I had bought a "complete package" of a bike.... Then I stumble on your post. You've killed me. Or perhaps reborn me.

Being new to all this I had no idea one could do do much to customise their bike. All I knew of this phenomina is what I have seen on tv. Which in my opinion is extreme. You my friend have shown me what a passion and brilliant attention to detail can achieve.

I love what u have done. Personally I think nothing is over the top or too much. All your mods compliment each other with nothing standing out more than the other which in my opinion allows the bike to be the hero. And after all it's why we chose this bike in first place.

Friggin awesome and if my wallet was as chunky as yours I'd be doing alot of similiar things as u have. He'll I'd be using your posted pics as the manual!!! They say immitation is the biggest compliment don't they.

Awesome!!!!!

hey guys! i need some help...

i have a few very minor problems with the 696. here goes...

when i start up my bike it make a real rough clanky sound and idle for about 4 seconds then its fine, and it runs normal all day. i have also noticed that my bike smells awful now. i think the smell started a few months ago when i removed the charcoal canister. it might be worse now. maybe not. is it normal for it to have a strong gas smell? it might be another smell than gas i just can't tell. my sense of smell is terrible. also i noticed the rough idle sound started around the time i unplugged my spark plugs and installed the two rizoma camshaft covers. oh, and if i start my bike up again while its still kinda warm it doesn't have that rough loud start up sound and idle. but if i let it sit for a whole day and start it the next day it does that problem again...

Did you recheck where you blocked off your intake manifolds, sounds like a vacuum leak.

yeah i meant camshaft covers.

so you guys think it has to do with my intake manifolds? is that the rough start up, the smell, or both?

how do i check that thats the problem? or how do i fix it? or do i need to just replace my manifold plugs? and last where do i get the manifold plugs... the dealer?

Did you use vacuum caps or did you remove the nipples and add block off screws on the intake manifolds? Vacuum caps can crack over time, if you used block off screws, did you loctite them tight in place?
I added new m6 screws, washers and loctited them in place, had to clamp one of the newly rerouted vent line/vapor lines because of a loose fit. You also should check those crank case covers for looseness, I never had mine apart so I don't know if there was a gasket in there.
Basically everything should be sealed up tight.
