Bar-end mirror recommendation?
«
on:
November 18, 2008, 06:29:29 AM »
The ones I'm looking at now are the Rizoma reverse retro bar end mirrors. However, the reason why I'm considering bar end mirrors is to improve visibility over the stock mirrors. I've heard that the Rizomas might actually give me
less
visibility.
Accordingly, if you have any recommendations for bar end mirrors that would improve visibility- I'm all ears

I like the Rizomas too but went with the crg because I liked the look and the price. I did have the opportunity to sit on a triumph with mirrors similar to the Rizoma and they seemed to give good visibility, but I didn't take it out on the road.

the rizomas give good visibility due to the placement of the mirrors. much better than stock in my opinion. even though the mirrors are smaller...

I have CRG lane splitters - awesome visibility. Can't comment at all on the Rizomas. Just had my first bike drop this weekend (stupid gravity making the bike roll off the kickstand - zero mph drop) and the CRG folded in per the design thereby saving itself from being crushed. So based on that I'd really recommend the lane splitters if you do go with the CRG's. Don't pay $80 for mirrors that are hard-mounted outside of the bar end cause it will be easy to break them in a drop.
I've seen a lot of comments from people who seem to like the bicycle mirrors ($10-15) from Cat Eye or 3rd Eye cause they're cheap to buy and cheap to replace.

+1 on the CRG's - lots of adjustability and great visibility. I bought my bike after the previous owner dropped it. The housing survived with a few scratches but the glass was gone. I think I paid $8 for a replacement mirror.

Are the Oberons any good? I have heard they aren't convex and are not very usefull.

I love the CRG Hindsight LS mirrors. Well worth the cost and safety factor.

I have the 75mm convex Oberons.
I love them.
I think the disign is a bit more elegant than the CRGs. A bunch more money, but I really like mine a lot. Visibility is fantastic.

Had CRG's on my Monster. They were pretty good. Being convex does a lot to make up for being 2" in diameter.
My Sport 1000 has Napoleons. MUCH better view. Being an extra 3-4" out front makes a lot of difference. Very adjustable, stay where you put them, and take a beating. Survived a 50 mph crash into a sandy ditch with a few scratches on the base and a few tiny pits in the glass. Oh, and they're only $30 each.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

+1 CRG LS mirrors. During tight lane splitting, they fold. If your bike falls, they fold. Yah, I'm sold on them. I can't comment on other mirrors, though.

If you are split between the CRG lane splitters and the Rizoma reverse retros expect to spend around $200 to $250 for both. That's including bar end sliders if you haven't already gotten them yet. Like others have said, the CRG's have their advantage.. convex, folds-in, and cheaper than the Rizoma's. Just remember if you go with the Rizoma's you need to get their sliders as well. Their mirrors are expensive but their sliders are pretty cheap.
