Monster S2R 800 - ALL BLACK

« on: November 29, 2008, 10:29:30 PM »

I'm looking for either smoked blinker covers for the monster or better yet a replacement set of blinkers that have orange l.e.d.s and a smoked lense. I did some searching (on this board) and on the web and couldnt find anything. I checked clear alternatives too, nothing.

I saw a pair on a gloss black bike (non duc) and it looked the business.

Some guys have sprayed the inside of the lens, don't remember with what, and have had good results. You add layers until dark enough. LED signals should be easy to find, just make sure the lenses come off, so you're able to spray from inside.

Yeah, finding the regular Led blinker isnt a problem but getting the smoked cover is. My best bet is to probably check a car forum to find out what to use to smoke it. Thanks for the idea.

You can get clear lenses with yellow bulbs and use the stuff the scooter guys have used. They tinted red and black . They look great , here is a link.

This paint may be the ticket. Dupli-Color Metalcast

Man, I have a set of the stock front signals with clear alternative smoked lens and amber bulbs on ebay right now, but it only has a couple of hours left.  I can't get it to link, but you can search ebay for "ducati monster turn signals" if you want to take a look.  Here is what they looked like on my bike.

I used VHT's Night Shades on my front blinkers.

More coats make it darker. I think I may have gone a little too dark. I'm going to try and go lighter on my rear blinkers when I get them, I'll probably do a single coat on the brake light too. I tried ordering it at Kragen but the computer said they can't order it anymore. I also tried the Dupli-color Metalcast "smoked" color after reading in about it online. It was available at both Kragen and Auto Zone, but it looked like crap. It was a grayish color and I think it blocked too much light. I don't remember if there was a Metalcast black, maybe it would have been better.

You can also get tinting spray from a hobby store.  I've used it on the taillights of my car.  Worked fine - and stood up to cold, hot and road salt plus getting washed.
