the valve adjustment interval isn't that bad on the new generation Ducati motors...granted that it isn't simple and is more often than the current japanese offerings...but you have to consider that there is a whole new ball of wax of possible issues that dealers may run into with this new R1...I say let them shake it down for a year and let the bugs be found and worked out.

good point that's actually why i wanted to waite for the 1198 because i know that early ducati's will have electrical prob

but i guess waiting four year to purchase a new bike is makeing me want to jump on the the latest and greatest

the new r1 sound's so much like the M1 with the r1  screaming up top
and since i can't afford the d16rr I'm looking for the next best mogp derived machine
fingers crossed

Derby's link is a great tech piece for enginerds types.

Basically the perfectly balanced crank in in-line fours create so much inertial momentum at high rpms, that the rider can't tell what is engine reaction from throttle inputs versus natural crank inertia.  The out of balance cranks, like they are running now, redistribute the output felt to be more from throttle and less inertia since they loose some inertia being out of balance.

I would wager a bet that Ducati also knew of this, but kept on with the big-bang tire story until one of the balanced teams figured it out to not let any tricks out of the bag.
