Ha! yeah, that was a bit of a pucker moment.  Shocked

Nice straight road, cruising along... oh what's this?... road surface change?... different colored pavement?.... ah NOO that's gravel. No warning signs, nothing! We didn't have an opportunity to brake before hitting the gravel at 100+. We did the right thing and didn't panic.  waytogo Once I knew things were under control, I checked the mirrors for Patrick. Yep, still there. Phew!  waytogo  I thought to myself, "once we get to the end of this stretch of gravel, I'm going to pull over and catch my breath", but right when the gravel stopped, the road had some gorgeous bends and I didn't want to waste them, so we kept on until the next gas stop.

Thank [insert preferred deity here] we were on a straight stretch, otherwise that would have been a lot more interesting!  bow down

Good ride today man.  [moto] waytogo

Outstanding! Lord knows we have all had days like that. It sucks big time! Thankfully it wasn't too bad and you made it through without mishap. I freaking hate those road conditions thrown at me while running full tilt and they give no proper warning. It makes me wonder what kind of yahoo is in charge of that road crew? Again, I still want a law that says you HAVE TO ride a motorcycle at least six months before you get a car drivers license!! That would change everything!! waytogo

Yeah, it was not like, ooh a bit of gravel.  It was about a quarter mile of gravel road out of nowhere.   Would have liked a "slow down squid, 'bout to throw you a curveball" sign...

Gravel sucks....

my bike doesn't like gravel... especially when an S4 is hurling it towards the radiator.. lol bang head

the ride I went on saturday, one of the guys on a GSXR 1k decided to do some off roading too... not sure why, but he purposefully rode it off the side of the road and proceeded to do power slides and rolling burnouts in the ditch along side the road...

About 12 miles NE of Wills Point on FM-47.

Last time i was out that way, my tank bag flew off, and then as we were passing that exact section, a cat flew out of a pick up truck and pretty much splatted right infront of us

Ha.. it looks to be a farmer-esque gentleman of african descent.

he had the back window to the cab of the truck open and the cat was walking along the seat... the front windows were also open... the cat got caught in the draft of air moving through the truck and tried to imitate a flying squirrel at about 70mph...  his attempt was a failure

That sounds like a flat cat. Tongue Glad you guys survived the gravel experience. Thank goodness it didn't surprise you mid-turn!! Good thing it was on a straight. waytogo

Given your story and my recent experience, I'm starting to wonder if that road is cursed. OOOOOOHHHHHHH  laughingdp
