Last night, at precisely 7:15 PM, I hear this tremendous crash outside.  Didn't even have to look - knew exactly what happened.



The trunk on my oak tree is at least a meter in diameter, so that makes it about 150-200 years old maybe?  Dunno. 

Anyway, I have been meaning to get a chainsaw lately.  Now I had a reason to .  Went to Lowe's today and got me an excellent Husquvarna 455 with 18" chain today.  Woo-hoo.  Always wanted a Husky.  Maybe I'll get the matching dirt bike . . .

On the brightside, got plenty of bonfire wood for this summer.

That's crazy!

Yesterday Amber and her housemate Greg and I went to Peninsula Park and as we were walking through it the wind picked up and sent ice chunks flying off the trees all around us, it was cool and a little scary. run for cover!!

Came home at noon today to take these pics for the insurance claim.

Was out in the road taking pics.  Mt. Talbert Park is just up the hill from me.  The crashing sound of trees falling sounded like the dinosaurs in Jurasic Park running through the trees and smashing them down!

Holy crap!  I hope everyone is ok and your roof isn't leaking.  So glad we made one of the last flights out on Saturday.  We're in NY, it's colder but no craziness like that.  Maybe I'll be lucky and come back to find a nice big branch has totalled my wifes cursed Volvo while we were away.  I hate that car.

The roof in the picture is my tool shed, not my house (thankfully).  House is fine. 

Tool shed is a little dented - no big deal.

Gonna have a big ass bonfire 1st chance I get!

I had a 40-50 foot pine with a double trunk (it splits into two trunks about 10 feet up) come down on my property last week. The weather has been so bad I haven't been able to do anything about it except top about 18 feet off of one of the tops. It fell right between one neighbor's garage, and another neighbor's duplex, and is stuck standing at about a 20 degree angle from the ground stuck on a fence. The trunks are really too small to support my weight (while the tree is frozen) and I can only reach the trunck with a 12' pruning saw to top it, so sadly even a polesaw is out of the question. Dang it takes a long time to cut through a treetrunk with a pruning saw. At least it is new and sharp. I have to rope each piece down to avoid damaging either of the buildings. I also hate standing on a roof with snow and ice covering it. I manage my apartment complex and my management company is going to get a big bill for this one.
Do you guys know about how much it would usually cost to remove a tree in this condition? I don't know how much to charge b/c I always just did this kind of stuff as part of working on the ranch.

I had a tree removed once, about 5 years ago it cost $700, big tree though overhanging the neighbors house and mine at least 30 foot tall big trunk was about 2-3ft in diameter that didnt include stump grinding which was another $200.
