Just thought I would share my latest project with you guys. The idea came from the Moto Wheels cover I just pretty much made my own. Right now it doesn't have any paint on it... thinking about black, and it needs some cleaning up. I was looking into powdercoating/ home systems but for me right now a decent spray paint is going to have to do. Any recommendations?

Just sheet metal from Home Depot nothing fancy  Smiley I might just spray it with clear I kind of like the look of the metal. I plan on making same style pieces to replace the entire plastic chain guard. I just want to do it tastefully and not go overboard on the whole circle theme  Grin

I don't know too much about gun care, but what about doing it in actual gun metal blue?  I agree though, it's gotta have some sort of finish or it will rust up on you pretty quick.  Or is it aluminum?

Nice work.  Just make sure you keep your laces tucked in  Smiley.

It's basically a black oxide finish.  It relies on a light film of oil to prevent additional "red oxide" from forming.

Thanks for the feedback everyone I really appreciate it  waytogo It is steel so it will rust. I finished sanding it with 220 grit paper yesterday and hand filed the edges. I would have liked to clear it but really wasn't sure how protective the choices were at my local paint store... So its semi flat black now with a rust protector paint. The bends were done with just a vice to make the initial angles followed by a little work with pliers and support pieces (to help keep the angles in place), with the help of a hammer every  now and then. Very trial and error it took a few tries to get it all fitted properly. I have the chain guard off... Didn't realize one of the little bolts holding it on won't come out all the way... It hits the footrest support right by the heelgaurd. Cut it loose and am working on templates.

So a little more progress on my project. Just finishing up the matching chain guard I need to sand it and think I am going to drill smaller holes in the back to remove more material. I painted the sprocket cover and don't really like it so either I am going to find a good clear or a Ti gray color or something that wouldn't be just another mismatched gray on the bike.

I will get around to taking a pic with it all on but for right now that's all.

how did you make the chain guard? special tools?
i assume its made of the same thing as the sprocket cover?
could the chain guard be made longer (say, the same length as the stocker...)
