awesome!

while you're at it, make one of these - http://www.desmotimes.com/product70.htm

nice work! you seem crafty, but the above case saver is a necessity. Do yourself a favor and make one of these, someone had a template on here for this, but i can't find it at the moment.
BTW, i bought one from desmotimes, it was worth my $22. I can make a bunch of stuff, but i couldn't beat the price

So a little more progress on my project. Just finishing up the matching chain guard I need to sand it and think I am going to drill smaller holes in the back to remove more material. I painted the sprocket cover and don't really like it so either I am going to find a good clear or a Ti gray color or something that wouldn't be just another mismatched gray on the bike.

I will get around to taking a pic with it all on but for right now that's all.

Great work with the sprocket cover and chain guard.  They are sweet looking.  How did you make those bends in sheet metal?  Did you use a bending machine?  It's something I would look into making in the future for myself, too.   Smiley

snip...
The bends were done with just a vice to make the initial angles followed by a little work with pliers and support pieces (to help keep the angles in place), with the help of a hammer every  now and then. Very trial and error it took a few tries to get it all fitted properly.

Right on.  I might tackle the chain guard next.  Love what you came up with.  Keep up the good work!

Yup. Really no special tools I really don't have one of those crazy workshops or anything  Grin I've got the last piece off and am still playing around with what I want to do with it. Trying to balance out the actual function of it vs. the looks.

Just a tip, the local auto paint supply store has this neat camera that can take a picture of paint and match the color.  They can then mix a rattle can that matches the engine case silver perfectly.  This was a big help when the horizontal cylinder had some oil seeping through a gasket and messed up the paint.  Can't even tell it was touched up.

I don't know too much about gun care, but what about doing it in actual gun metal blue?  I agree though, it's gotta have some sort of finish or it will rust up on you pretty quick.  Or is it aluminum?

Nice work.  Just make sure you keep your laces tucked in  Smiley.

Blued guns/metal will rust faster than most anything else.

If you want to borrow from the gun industry, I'd suggest parkerizing using the cheap-o D-cell battery method- you can get a deep black park using a few simple parts and junk from the hardware store.  It does require heating acids in a trough or bucket though- nothing dangerous as long as you don't drink it Wink

Here is the finished product! I decided to make up a simple rear chain guard and not go too crazy with the circle theme. Still trying to find a closer silver but its not a big deal right now.
