It's like I keep saying:  Those who would sacrifice a free range session for a giant beer, deserve neither free range time nor a giant beer.

Damnit! There should be a warning to go along with threads like this. Now I have to go change my pants yet again today.

Fack!

I was holding my breath when he was at 406km/h till he hit 407.

Being that we're talking about a museum piece here, that CF hood looks a bit gappy where it meets the fenders.  Particularly in the top photo.  I dunno if that kind of slop is supposed to be acceptable to the Arab crowd or what.

there is another of that car on display at the Autostadt in Wolfsburg which is one of the main plants for VW in Germany!

and I think if I recall the article describing the car, those are hand rolled aluminum fenders.

A tear rolled down my cheek and I changed my shorts when he hit top speed...

Captain Slow my ass.  That took some balls.  And to narrate coherently the entire time ("the engine is sucking in more air in a minute than I do in 4 days!).  Its a testament to the car that a relative novice could achieve that speed with little drama.

Aesthetically, I'm not a big fan, but the car is on another level in terms of engineering and style.  There are a whole slew of kit-car looking ultracars that can put up similar numbers, but none of them will ever do it with as much class as the Veyron.  I hope VW doesn't kill the brand; they take a huge loss on every Veyron they make and there has been some discussion about trimming fat from the VW family.  Then again, there are also some rumors of an "entry-level" Bugati.  Given the direction environmental regs are going, its going to be very hard to build cars like this in the future.  The Veyron may represent the pinnacle of the petrol-based auto.

It doesn't really look like aluminum on the fenders.  Metals keep their basic coloration, no matter the surface configuration.  Polished aluminum has a much lighter appearance than say steel, ti, or any other structurally used metals.  I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a quality paint finish, or even some sort of mildly transparent finish over a metal frame.

Ehh.  Who gives a shit what it's made of.  Very little is justifiable for that price but that is one gorgeous car and surely a feat of modern engineering and design.

YOU DIDN'T READ THIS DID YOU?
http://www.vwvortex.com/artman/publish/bugatti_news/article_2064.shtml

the article clearly states the body and what it is made of...

Quote...Aluminum
The parts made of aluminum show the meticulousness and will to perfection the designers of Bugatti pursued in their work. And this doesn't just apply to the body. The reason for this is that aluminum is normally a recycled product, resulting in a variety of impurities in the alloys. This has no effect on the characteristics of the material, but on its appearance. After polishing and anodizing the aluminum there can be different degrees of gloss. Not so on the inside of the Veyron, where aluminum is used with the material corresponding to the body shell: If you look closely, you can see that there are no differences in gloss here. Because a single, special alloy is used exclusively in the Veyron: AlMgSi 0.3 Vitral 42. No work is done with other alloys....

The car is certainly impressive, though I'm not sure I'd want to own one. I mean, without a 5 mile long private runway or a slightly banked 60 mile private oval of asphalt to even attempt to hit the top speed, owning a Veyron would be sort of like being married to Sophie Marceau and not being able to have sex with her.

ZLTFUL

But therein lies the exact point. If you can afford a Veyron, then more than likely you an afford your own private 5 mile airstrip.  ;D
