So we can then sue the city for making the cross walks safe for old ladies and small dogs, but not for motorcyclists?

Old ladies and small dogs don't wheelie up staircases on school grounds...or down 24th Street in Noe Valley Grin

Ahem.... on 7 19 - I crashed my multistroodle doing a dirt road that turned to sand in the alvord desert in east OR. Does that one count?  Hell, I broke my ankle! bang head bang head

It totally counts.  Did you tell me about it or was I supposed to read your thoughts?  Keep in mind that stuff told to me in passing at Zeitgeist doesn't get retained.  You've seen my little head.  There's only so much room in there and I try to ration my RAM for stuff like my address, simple addition, the exact http address for Neil Hodgson's fan site photo section, and other super-critical stuff...

I think I got it--perhaps the date is a little wrong--or perhaps you're STILL loaded up on painkillers.  BTW, thanks for not sharing, fooker.   Grin

Most welcome.  Now stop crashing.  Cuz I'm lazy and I don't like having to keep track of y'all eatin' dirt all the time.   cheeky

It's the smashing into guardrails, off of 600' cliffs, into oncoming traffic, little old ladies, small dogs, little old ladies walking small dogs that we want to heartily discourage.

So where does Joe running down crackheads on Mission fit into these guidelines? Is that OK unless they're walking a small dog? What if it's a little old lady crackhead walking a rottweiler?

Listen.  Joe drinks his lattes with his little finger pointing up in the air just like the rest of us pansies.  The closest he's ever come to running anyone down is that one time when an elderly gal was crossing the street in front of Kragen who were having two-fer sale on wax polish.  He was in a hurry and nearly ran a yellow, because he was worried he wouldn't make it before they closed.  You see he got caught up in watching a full eipsode of Touched by an Angel on Oxygen.

I love that show...

I keep watching Oxygen because it's supposed to make the hangover less severe....

Wait? Touched by an Angel is on Oxygen? I watched it once and kept wondering when the porn scenes would start...

'Belle,

Ever get that year to year comparison happening? That'd be interesting to see.

The ticker's a good idea, thanks for doing this 'Belle   waytogo

Like Desmostro said, It'd be interesting to see if there are patterns over previous years... are there more crashes in the summer when there's heavier bike traffic or worse in the winter because of slippery road conditions, etc? The largest amount of time without a crash, the smallest?

I think crashing on the street is terrifying so I always to try to understand the different causes and how they can be avoided. I think the ticker works to keep this reality in check.

Here's to a year of Safe and Sane street riding  waytogo [moto]

First post updated.  I kept more stats the first couple of years--I think because of the two(?) deaths this year I stepped back from the reasons why people had crashed in an effort to forget it a little bit.  I'm a tad too sensitive to things like that.  In comparison to the previous two years 2008 looks better.  I need to check my math, but I think we had fewer crashes and we didn't have people crashing twice in a year...stuff like that.

Actually for a short period, the pattern involved if I was riding or not  Tongue

Well, because I'm a bored geek on my lunch hour:

Crashes By Day of week:
Sunday   7
Monday   6
Tuesday   3
Weds   4
Thursday   8
Friday   7
Saturday   11

Crashes by month:
J   2
F   4
M   6
A   2
M   3
J   4
J   3
A   5
S   7
O   1
N   5
D   4

Clearly, Tuesdays in October are the safest days to ride and Saturdays in September are the worst Smiley
