Okay so it's an Italian magazine giving the 'award' but who cares.    

Actually, it's a little different than the editors of CycleWorld checking the advertising sums and declaring a winner. 

More than 35,000 readers of the major Italian bike magazine Motociclismo voted for their “Moto dell’anno 2008” (Bike of the Year 2008) and scored Ducati a best ever result in Sport Bike, best in Supermotard and a major result in the Naked Bike categories.

Given the motorcycle's place in Italian culture, and Motociclismo's place in it, it's more like the fans voting for the MVP at the All Star game here in the US of A.
