Back on saddle II, "the return"
«
on:
January 05, 2009, 10:13:11 AM »
The S2000 is a nice car, but it's not a bike!!!! I just can't continue like that... I'm just too depressed...
So, I just started looking -very slowly- for a new bike.
I won't probably commute as much as before (5d/week, rain or shine) to keep the family more comfortable about that, so I am hesitating between getting another S2R1k or getting a "more expensive to maintain" S4Rs.
Before taking decision, I just would like to know what are the mods you NEED to do on a S4Rs.
On a S2R1k, I know the list: Pipes + exhaust, Air Filter, FacDuc O2 sensor tricker and you're good.
Now for a S4RS, what are the things? Are you screwed as you are with the O2 sensor thing on a S2R1k? are you obliged to get the DP ecu? you know this kind of stuff??
Any advices, opinions?
Thanks.

My list of essential mods:
- 14 tooth front sprocket
- Termis (keeps the thing in warranty, I think no need for an ECU)
- Tail chop
- Corbin seat

I got to ride a stock S4RS for about a week, and I have to say, it was lovely as is. (Even thought he tires were pretty shagged.) The Ohlins suspension is worth the $$ on its own.

You guys know my opinions on mods...
The S4Rs doesn't have the same lean mapping the S2R1K did, so you most likely don't need the O2 Sensor tricker.

Coooool... Good news even the earlier model like the 2006 or 2007? The 2007 S2R1k was the worse ones (And I know!!!
) while the 2006 and 2008 were way easier to improve...

Tail Chop (Competition Werks)
Full Termi system (airbox lid, filter, pipes, cans, ECU)
new grips ($10 well spent)
a professional tuning of that lovely suspension you shelled the extra $$ for.
not too much.. She's pretty well set up as is. Those Termis hurt the wallet though..

You know I am in the same boat. The s2000 is a nice car but everytime I see a motorcycle ride by me all I can think about is dropping the car off in the garage.
I cant wait to get the bike out of Nichols.. Hopefully sometime this week. In regards to the S4R the only thing I did was put a 14t on it and some aftermarket exhaust. after 25k miles I still am not remotely tired of the bike.

Ok... So let me get this straight: basically, changing Pipes on a S4Rs doesn't required a remapped ECU to keep the bike working great.
Correct?

I have FBF Pipes and no ECU changes.
Actually I was going to get the performance ECU and Nichols said don't bother. The bike runs great stock.
It prob depends on the pipes
Note I have the 05 S4R which is the 996 motor. I am not sure about the 998 motors

I'm running full Arrows on my S4RS with a fat duc thingy. It seems ok so far, but I've only ridden with this setup once so to be honest, the jury's still out. For $80 and a 30 day free trial, though, you can't go wrong.

I beg to differ. Mine was a beast at low/mid rpm when warm-to-hot. Anything over 180-190 deg coolant temp was sketchy. The mix is def waaaay lean. When I installed the full system, the ports and pipes were WHITE inside. Not tan, not grey, stark raving white! Now that is lean. You might be able to mask it enough to make it bearble with a 14t, but why? When all that silky smooth goodness (and extra HP) awaits you with the DP ECU/Full system...
Just my .02 and to each their own...
