I'd like some input on what people would like to see in a new seat. Not only Monster, but any Ducati model you may own. Taller? Shorter? Wider? Narrower? Harder or softer? You get the idea, now share them with me.

i want one that isn't constantly pushing me forward on my S2R.
i'm settling for the dp gel seat, it's about the only choice left... sargeant is too high for me, corbin is unobtanium.

I replaced my seat with the touring seat and it solved the problem with the angle pushing me forward. And it's a bit more cushy, which helps.

Summary: A seat with less forward pitch and more cush. waytogo

A few of the problems with the new 696 is no space for adding luggage or other items on the rear of the bike. It also has no real grab handle for passengers.

I wanted to turn my bike into a 2-up tourer for next summer around Europe and had looked at the corbin with the rear seat support and the rear rack. but people are saying corbin is on the way out. PLUS the one seat they have for the 696 has issues 1)ugly 2) doesn't fit the seat cover properly.

I would like to see a seat that has the options for a grab handle/strap, an extended platform for rear mounted bags and maybe an option for side bags that go out wider than the pipes. and it should have the same feel/style/angle of DP touring seat which is awesome.

I got the corbin for my 696 it solved the crush and koosh factor after i sent the damn thing back twice. My first hand experience was absolutely horrible. My advice as far as corbin goes = stop riding motorcycle before buying anything from corbin. in fact let me use some colorful words make the beast with two backs corbin. my 4.5 cents ( yes im very but hurt over my purchase )

once upon a time there was a custom seta manufacturer called Corbin that made custom seats.  There WERE very nice.  But they left the custom game and since then I rarely meet anybody who's happy with their Corbin purchase.  They made a smuggler seat for the Blackbird but when I called them, they made it clear that they would never make anything like that for Ducatis, after all, who would buy a solo seat with a locking storage compartment built into the back, and it wasn't worth doing a one off to gauge customer feedback...

In short, I love my Seargent seat.  It's wider, so it feels taller, but for touring, it couldn't be better.  The material they use is easy to slide on in leathers, and I love that for quick position changes.  If you can use the Seargent and get toes down on both side, I'd highly recomend it.

did I mention Seargent uses their own seat bucket, with an integrated stowage cylinder in it?!  I keep all my papers, a flat head and a shorty wrench in mine.  I could fit the rest of the toolbox in there, but suspension tools are all I really need.

Can anyone comment on whether or not there are issues getting the stock seat cowl to fit over a sargent seat?

There should not be an issue. I've seen plenty of Sargents with the seat cowl. I find the choices simple. For tall people, get the sargent. For short people, get the DP gel seat.

If I had the cash to have someone make the perfect seat for me. It would push me more forward, be slightly more narrow and lower, all in relation to the stock seat. And made of something other than vinyl, like Alcantara for where my butt goes, and leather elsewhere.

This is the DP lower seat, not the touring seat, for the 696/1100:

Pros:
20mm lower (as advertise for short Ducatistis)
Less, much less, of a forward angle compare to stock (Happy manhood waytogo)
Smooth alcantara (I think) material for rider's buns (The guys at the dealer agreed the feel is much better than the DP touring material)
Semi rough (read non-slippery) but cushy composite material for passenger's buns
Better cushions compare to stock (even though there are less material)
Red stitching is nice
Fits the rear cowl nicely and looks better than stock

Con:
the width is the same with less material underneath making it more flatter than stock. This translate to a more of a bowed leg feel with both feet down and result in not much of a gain in the feet to ground contact over the stock height. I say more of a 10mm advantage and not 20mm advantage over stock.

But still very happy with the purchase. Worth it [moto]

I have a Corbin that came with my 2005 S2R.  I have been very happy with the Corbin comfort wise, but it has no storage underneath. I am a tall guy, though and am thinking about buying the Sargent for the extra inch and the storage.  Anybody want to buy a corbin......

I have comfortably & firmly donned my flamesuit before writing this thread, so let it rip....  laughingdp

I have had no probs with a seat I had made by Corbin. It solved a problem I had with the seat on my Mean Streak and is fantastically comfortable. There was a huge choice of options and cover materials etc.

I think the problem here is, unless you ride the bike in there and it is available for test sitting/fitting, you aren't gonna get a 100% custom/perfect fit that everyone thinks is gonna come out of the box in the mail. Look at the DP gel, Sargeant and touring seats. Not everyone is happy with those either... I can ride the bike all day with no discomfort (got some previously broken/fractured bits). The Corbin's DO feel hard at first sit but they DO break in after a bit.

Even though I have the DP gel seat currently on my S4RS and it is hugely better than the stocker, I am seriously considering going back to Corbin and having one made for the RS!  waytogo

just my .02...

My s2r1k seat cowl fits over the sargent seat.  It's a little more snug than the OEM seat, but not so much it would cause damage.
