i know the feeling. I bought my bike last about 2 years ago for 5K. It WAS a fair deal until i found out that the previous owner had dumped it, put a dent in the tank, pulled the dent out wrong thus creating a leak then covered it up by putting bondo over the top then giving it a paint job. Oh yes and he didnt tell me it had a base gasket leak either. So now im left with a tank that needs the leak to be welded and a paint job (the bondo bubbled up and came off thats how i found the leak) and a base gasket that is leaking. At this point im thinking im just going to buy another tank, yet am afraid to buy one off of ebay for fear of winding up with yet another tank that leaks.

ther are several members on this board that can fix and paint your tank

I think I paid Mac's radiator shop 3 twampers and a tenner for it - they are down by Victor's house somewhere, IIRC. (That's $70 in american-english.) You'll need to paint it, but you couldn't see the burnt part when it was mounted up, so you could just rattle can the hinge and be fine.

Right on. Thank you all for your help. Ill get it brazed at Macs radiator up in portland this week.
They are a larger company and they have all the right tools to find out where exactly the fracture is and how to test it once they patch it up.

It's actually a real bear to get the innards cleaned correctly prior to applying the POR15. When done correctly you POR it in the filler cap and constantly rotate the tank until your wiener falls off. If it don't fall off, the shite don't stick. If it don't stick you have real problems with injectors or carbs. I had Ducpainter do mine. Send him a msg regarding. Nate will probably give you some insight. Good luck!

You know on second thought, I don't want you to think you need that crap in there. Some folks hate a liner in there. Just have the leaks patched. No big deal.
