I always wanted a something more sporty than my monster. I was looking at the 848 but something like this came out I would definately get it.  [thumbsup]

His site Moto Sketches has other renderings... His work seems kind of repetitive, still nice but not very original.

I think about this topic very often. I am glad other people feel the same. I would love for DUCATI to make a new SS. I would design it so that the riding position is between the 1198 and the ST3 but with the styling way more sporty than the ST3. Of course I would use the new 1100 DS and would make accessories for it so that people can take it in the very sporty touring direction or the sporty direction. This would most likely eliminate the need for the ST3 but that bike hardly sells anyway and the styling says anything but Ducati IMHO.

Adjustability would be the key in a bike like this. If the pegs, clip-ons, height, and even the seat was adjustable, this would be my dream bike. Granted, it has to look sporty though, just like the original SS but with a more comfortable seating position. I wish Ducati would do this!!! It seems like you have to be a Racer who only rides 10 minutes at a time, or an older tourer these days. Ducati should bridge that gap. Where is the equivalent of a BMW M6, Merc CL55, or Jaguar XKR these days. It seems like we only get the equivalent of Ferraris Enzos and Porsches 911 Turbos from Ducati.  I often think that Ducati does not offer a bike in which one can go for a 3 day ride with friends to look for the best twisties or to explore out of state race tracks. A bike one can take touring with the girlfriend or wife, or for a fast sunday ride. I would think that most people over 30 would at least cosider something like that at one point or another. Don't you think?? I would, and would gladly pay more than I did for my s2r 1000.

they should just take the 696 and 1100 Monsters. change the rear subframe (which i'm sure is modular for a reason) add clipons, bodywork (both full and half), make a mono- and bi-posto version and an undertail exhaust.

imagine the 1100 SS with Monoposto light rear subframe, undertail exhaust and fully adjustable mono-rearsets!

it could be lighter than the Monster!

so basically you are saying you want Ducati to make the SS into a VFR?!?!?!

with the rumored 1200cc 2valve air cooled motor coming...maybe this could be a promising thought in comparo to the BMW R1200S...make the clightly larger 2 valve mill put out over a 100hp and I think it is a dead on competitor against that bike...and yes...at that point, it might also be something someone could justify racing in an endurance series like MotoST...the key to it's success would be marketing it correctly...and it seems Ducati as of late with it's marketing is very hot and cold or hit and miss....so who knows.

a duc ss should be a street legal ncr millano.   air cooled.  weigh nothing.  race ergonomics.  half fairing so we see the motor.  beatiful.

I'd write a check.

I think more sane, everyday ergo's (RC8ish) with a decent seat (NOT and RC8), two-valve, F.I., 1/2 fairing, radial brakes, adjustable suspension and a tach.  No traction control, slipper clutch, crazy spec motor  or spokes.
Any color you want as long as it's silver, yellow, red or black.

I sent an email to Ducati threating them to make it or I will kill one of their first born.

It would be an awesome track bike. This is the only new Ducati I would consider up to this point.

Hands down, my ss1000 was my favorite bike.

This one is, like all new Ducs, looking a little Jap Bike-ish, but I like it better than anything else they have put out lately.

Bring on an SS1100, and I will consider it.
It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

Racing against I4 600's isn't the end all be all.  That air cooled 1100 engine in a properly done lightweight street racing configuration would be awesome.  I think the only thing that brought the demise of the former SS was the aesthetic design. I never could warm up to it like I did the SS up through the '98 models.

I know racing is Ducati's **thing** but the concept of the SS was 75% of the track power with all of the track prowess.  When this target was 80RWHP and that number was ahead of the bulk of the pack people bought in.  Plus the older SS bikes looked a lot like the 888s so there was the impression that you were on something exotic and special.

I had a Terblanche SS and despite a love/hate relationship with the asthetics, I believe the demise of the SS was due partly to marketing and partly to underwhelming engine performance.  At the time, the SS had the most aggressive riding position in the Ducati line-up.  People could suffer this if the appearance knocked their socks off or the engine pulled their arms out of their sockets, but it never did either.  Add to this Ducati's lack of marketing skill and the SS's days were numbered.

I don't think the day will ever come back for the SS. When you can buy an off the shelf SV 650 that will wipe the floor with the 1100 2v you are losing the race before you begin.  Besides, the SS would certainly eat into lagging Sportclassic sales.

sbrguy

you already have a ss bike its called the 848.

isn't the supersport class the 600 sportbikes? well the 848 is right there with the cbr 600, and such... so you already have a ss model.

Raux

no the 848 is a Superbike class. it's a 4v watercooled bike.

the SS
there were 600,750,800,900,1000 versions through the years. and i think also a 400.
they were all 2v aircooled bikes.

dont forget the 350 either  [thumbsup]

Raux

putting the 1100DS motor from the Monster 1100 and giving it sexy body work would sell.
and yes it would cut into the SC bikes, but then again the retro thing is getting old  [laugh]
then come out with a smaller 696 ranged (stroked for more cc) to follow on.

just two models would be enough to start
but add a superlight monoposto 1100 (with CF rear subframe, magnesium engine castings, ohlins, CF parts, etc.) the second year to keep things fresh! Imagine cutting the 350 lb barrier with 95+ hp  [moto]

I think if they use the styling more from the D16 than the SBK there would be more benefit right away with sales.
It's a great marketing tie.

hmmm
so the models would be:
696 SS
1100 SS
1100 SS SL

then the follow on would be updating the engines to maybe
800 range SS
1200 SS
1200 SS SL
