Get your DVRs all set because it's going to be another great weekend of racing! WSBK from Donnington Park in England and MotoGP in Assen, Holland. This is all good stuff because it's too hot and nasty to do much else!
Just a heads up, the Assen races will actually be run on Saturday the 27th but SpeedTV will broadcast the MotoGP races and WSBK races Sunday afternoon back to back. First the SBK races starting at 2:00 followed by 250GP and the big boys.
Enjoy!

With Rossi on pole and Lorenzo in the third spot Team Fiat/Yamaha is looking strong. Pedrosa at 2nd will give some interesting moments in the first few laps.
Party? did someone say pool/watching party?

Just another day at the office for Spies.
http://www.cyclenews.com/articles/road-racing/2009/06/27/spies-still-the-superpole-king
I won't even comment on the MotoGP race.

DO NOT OPEN THIS LINK OR READ IT IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN WSBK RACE TWO!!!!
This could have been a lot worse. This wreck looked really sick on the replay. Never good getting stomped on by your bike in a high speed crash. Ugly...

I don't know. Not as bad as mine but bad enough to very seriously screw up his championship hopes this year. Then there is the wrist injury.
Hopefully that is not the case. He deserves the crown like no other.
But a one to three month healing and rehab period is major in the middle of the season... that's not good. I know there is a month off until the Czech race in Brno then the end of summer Euro vacation hits. Next race after the doldrums of summer is Sept. 6th at Nurburgring, Germany. So, that's all of July off, the Czech race, then all of August off, then Nurburgring. That's two months off and missing one race weekend for sure. That's probably the best case scenario. Again, that's being very optimistic about him even being able to race in Germany. I'm sure his doctors would go nuts if he tried. But he is a balls to the wall fighter and you know if Pedrobot is racing in pain in MotoGP so will Haga in WSBK.
Just wish this hadn't of happened. Obviuosly! I wanted to see a down to the wire, race by race, neck and neck finish to the season. No DNFs, no crashes, just WFO racing. Of course that's what everyone wants and other than 2006 with the Nicky and Valle show I can't remember one. Just hoping for the best with this just like everyone else... including Spies.

Been a Haga fan for a long time... hopefully this is just a bump in the rode. He has some time to Brno, and I seem to remember him winning a race last year 2 weeks after collarbone surgery... great Haga interview afterwards, "Corrabone no paining, bike go wary fast..."
Speaking of Nicky, he is #15 in the standings, and Canepa is #16. Anyone want to revisit my analysis from last year on whether or not Nicky was right for seat #2 at Ducati? Also, with Simoncelli coming up to Gresini, and people walking around Donnington and Assen with rolled up unsigned contracts in their hand, show at present seems to be in the pits...
Funniest observation from the weekend, was Steve Martin pointing out that the Yamaha team captain thinks that Spies would be better off hanging around in Superbike with the Yamaha kids for a few years... yep.. go figure, who would have guessed?
I will say this, I TRULY thought Spies was going to get spanked this year, and absolutely positively could not have been more wrong. He is showing a Rossi-like consistency on the track that seems VERY rare to me.

Yep, I had high hopes and reservations about Spies in WSBK. As well as Haga with Ducati... gotta love that guy!! I was worried that Spies would jump into MotoGP right off the bat from AMA and not fair well. I think he landed where he needs to be. This bad situation for Haga... make that an extremely unfortunate incident, plays well into Spies hands... again unfortunately for Haga. I read on all the other boards about Spies possibly taking a Aprilla ride next year in WSBK and all the other silly season MotoGP BS. Personally, I think he needs to stay where he is. World SBK is really working to his advantage. And if Haga is hurt it only (unfortunately) plays in his favor. Win the Championship in your rookie year... how awesome is that.
I think WSBK is the class that rocks not MotoGP. Ben may want to go to MotoGP but as a fan the WSBK series it is so much better it's not even funny. Especially with all the stupid "cost savings" rule changes that will be coming next year in MotoGP. Limited engines, limited to one bike, etc... Sorry, WSBK kicks ass over the MotoGP nonsense. Besides, we ride the same bikes that WSBK uses, not MotoGP. Race on Sunday, sell on Monday mentality. It's interesting that WSBK has had no real threat or consequences from the world economic crisis but it seems to be kicking MotoGP's ass. Funny...
WSBK rocks and I hope a certain Longview, Texas resident does well.

Well Spies goes for championship this year, Haga i hate to say it but start showing his old self (crashes and poor results
) He races WSBk since 1998 that's 11 years.. Spies is very mature and if he wins it this year i dont see racing WSBk again, is pointless...
I think Yamaha can find an extra satellite bike for him, sponsors will come for a WSBk champion!
Toseland or Edwards will leave in the end of this season (Toseland maybe to Yamaha SBK team?
)
And whats the deal with Stoner? He gets sick on Race day from now on? He looked ok in Warmup, did he got sick when vale hit the 8sec gap?

Watching #46 ride off into the sunset whenever he wants would make me sick.
I still say the last race in Spain between Valle and Lorenzo was one of the best I have ever seen. Top five races for sure! Just awesome. The fact that Lorenzo pushed Rossi that hard all the way says one hell of a lot about Lorenzo's abilities. Just racing Rossi that hard for the whole race and even finishing second would be a "win" for most racers.

I really wonder if he just got heat stressed at Catalunya, or if the heat stress may have triggered something harder to diagnose? Puking twice in your helmet can't be helpful when you're trying to close a gap, or even if you're just trying to keep Dovizioso behind you. Hopefully, he hasn't developed appendicitis. An inflamed appendix can be subclinical for weeks or months and then flare with symptoms of cramps, nausea and vomiting when heat, exertion or other stressors are present. Imagine what a month out recuperating from surgery would do to his season.
Just my $.02 as an RN with a personal history of both heat exhaustion and appendicitis (not at the same time, though).

Thanks for the intel. You could be on to something with that. You're right, something like that could torpedo your season in a hurry. You always are thinking about racers crashing and the related injuries taking them out not just good old fashion illness. I remember Jay Springsteen (AMA flat track racer) years ago had a recurring stomach ailment that was constantly messing up his races and seasons. I forget what it was but it would rear it's ugly head on a regular basis.
