I saw Scott "Mr. Daytona" Russell in the pits being interviewed on the TV today.  Didn't watch the race so don't know how fast he is. Man he looked old and wrinkly. Almost didn't recognize him. They must doll him up on the Speed channel when he's announcing bike races.

I like his "color" commentary on Speed broadcasts.  And he's a darn good sportscar race too; wish I could have seen him during his AMA hayday.

Oops... damn volcano!! No Motegi MotoGP next weekend! It's been moved to October, which makes October a very busy race month!!

For a second there (until I followed the link) I thought Fujiyama had erupted, too. Shocked The vulcanologists and seismologists are sure earning their paychecks these days.

Oh, well, I hope we can get a couple of good racing seasons in before 2012. Evil

October darn sure will be full of them now! What an expensive and logistical nightmare to hump all those teams to three different tracks on three consecutive weekends. Ugh... those team managers will certainly earn their $$$! bang head

Not to be a contrarian - far be it from me, mind you - but the AMA Superbike and Super Sport races this weekend at Road Atlanta were pretty darn good.  The racing was hot and the commentary was much improved; Speed moved Lee Diffy from sportscar duties over to work with Scott Russell.  Very good, knowledgable and entertaining combo.

O.K.  I take all that AMA prasie back.  Too bad the officiating isn't up to the quality of the racing.  Bunch of bozos...

wtf.

i have to admit, it was bizarre. You get penalty, serve your penalty, and then - by no fault of your own, the race is redflagged after only 4 laps. I say, 30min in the pit and a complete race restart. Forget the penalty, previous positions, etc. The race had barely begun. So, regardless of the result at the time of the race, or the changed result, I think it was a complicated issue that arises somewhat rarely. But, I should note, that's two recent races I have watched that have been red-flagged. And that gets a big WTF from me.

i dunno. DucShop's Ducati had the damn internal shift-linkage spring break on them in their race. What a pregnant dog. Those little make the beast with two backsers don't give you any warning and occasionally you get a weak one.

Uh, just watched the AMA SBK debacle and despite that box start problem with Hayes is there any reason to watch this?? It's just not interesting and that won't fill the stands. What race track owner would want these people back? Again, it's not the racers so much but after 6-10th place in SBK who cares?? They are nobodys! Hopkins is a wanker even in AMA/DMG racing and he is a former world champ!!!! Shit, he makes me look good!!! bang head bang head bang head

Weird about Hopkins.  Broken right hand or something that he's been recovering from for a while.  But what a sad place to be; featured in one of the greatest moto films of all time - "Faster" - to schlepping around at the back of an AMA race.  WTF.  Very sad, indeed.

Something is going on there. With Hopkins. Perhaps he's gotten a bit scared for one reason or another and has slowed down dramatically, but he's "slow" by most measures now.

I've been disagreed with by saying that MotoGP is the pinnacle, and WSBK is the #2 race, but all must agree that AMA is at the very best, #3 (and I would put the level of competition below that with GP 125/250, etc)
