I have a 2002 M750, will a 2002 Monster S4 tank fit my bike?

If I recall correctly the S4 tank has a considerbly lower fuel capacity . . . you might want to reconsider.

Check the parts manual for your bike and the S4, if the part number is the same then it will fit.  My current tank is off of an S4, it was the same part number, and I had no problem with it.  Same fuel capacity too.

Now about what chuck says....is this true?? Chuck you sure about that?  I would think if its the identical part number, then it would have to be the same tank, so the fuel capacity would be the same no?

I got a chance to buy a red 2002 S4 tank for about $100. Id have to swap all the parts off my current tank over, like the fuel cap, hinge, fuel injected internals ect but the tank is in good condition, no scratches or dents.  I guess id have to say goodbye to the black color bike but ive always liked the red ones too.

I'd do it, and if the color is going to bother you, paint it now since it's off the bike already...  I hear yellow is the 'in' color this spring...

Go by P/N, obviously.

I think Chuckles was thinkin' of the later S4Rs tanks... I'm pretty sure the bikes with the Testastretta engine have a different airbox (which sticks up in the middle of the fuel tank), and they may be the bikes with smaller tanks.  Not sure about the 996-engined S4R.

JohnnyD, or anyone else with an -Rs care to chime in?

You guys if the PN is the same, shouldnt the gas cap/fuel injection stuff/hinge ect. fit as well?

So this tank for sale is off a 2002 S4 (he says its off a 1000 so im figuring that means a 996) i checked its the same part # as my tank but the tank comes without any hardware. I just want to make sure all this stuff on my current tank will be able to be transferable. I dont see why not, as long as its the same part #.

Every part is the same, fuel system parts are the same, tank part numbers are the same, every dam screw part # is the same between the two bikes EXCEPT for one part. The Tank cap. Part number is 895.4.004.1A for the S4 and 895.4.001.2A for the monster......hmmmm..... shoot ill just have to chance it. Maybe it was just a different rev. of the same thing.

The S4 cap probably just has a logo or some other cosmetic difference to match S4 trim. If all else is the same, there will be no problems. Throw on your cap and call it good.

Worst case scenario is you'll have to go down to MotoCorsa or look around the web and buy an aftermarket cap.  Sounds like everything else is gravy... go for it. 

(FYI, if the tank P/N is the same, then the mouth that the filler cap mounts to would have to be identical, regardless of what the filler cap itself looked like)

Well the tank i was going to get got sold....so im going to weld mine. I spent today just trying to empty the tank and get it off the bike. Those hoses were on there good. Got the tank off, but man its hard trying to empty out the last bit of gas, even with the tank off holding it upside down and shaking it with the filler cap off you can still hear a little bit of gas in there.... Anyone ever taken the low fuel sensor out before? theres a wire that goes up in there that plugs into the inside of the front of the tank? How are you suppose to unhook that and hook it back up?

I don't think I gutted mine, the brazing (not welding) keeps the heat pretty localized.

The brazer will likely flood it with inert gas during the actual operation, but I think I rinsed mine out with hot water before taking it in.
