Polpetta and I might be able to make it to Bako if we are invited.

But we are curious, why the hell would you choose to drive north on the 5 instead of going up the coast?

sac

I'll ask the one who wears the pants but I think we're taking 5 because we're going to the mountain and not to Portland itself. So we want to stay east.

Tell him you want to see the ocean one last time before being locked away in the mountain lair.

Not if you are going to Joels.

Way outta the way, but a nicer drive.  If you have everything tied down well, you could take the 33  [evil]

Don't know if it's too late and if you have places that are out of the way but PCH is almost always the right choice.  A little slower than 5 but so worth it, so pretty.  There's  a stretch of Route 1 between Hardy and Legget, CA that will make you want to motor all the way there from Oregon just to ride it.  It's got one of those yellow signs with the crooked arrow that means curves ahead, then in little letters below it says "Next 22 Miles".  Sweet piece of road!  Saved my attitude on day three of a miserable headwind.

Then again when my wife moved from Cali to Portland I had to drive a big U-Haul truck up PCH a section of the coast to avoid snow at Grant's Pass.  Fourteen hour trip.  A little less than fun, those things have bad handling and weak brakes when they're loaded.

Either way, good luck with the trip.

I'm not a fan of doing the PCH unless the weather is really bad on 5 because I just want to get the trip over with. This isn't a sight seeing trip unfortunately and we aren't leaving much time for delays as it is.

If its absolutely necessary to take the PCH, then I'll go for it. If not, I'd rather just get home as quickly as possible.  :-\

Just keep your average speed at about 130,  it will make up for the longer route.  [laugh]

If you drive the nicest car in the neighborhood, work in a cash business, and don't pay taxes, you're either a preacher or a drug dealer...
