Powdercoating Brake Calipers

What is the preparation process for powdercoating brake calipers? Do they need to be completely torn down or can they be left mostly intact with the pistons pressed apart and the inner area taped over to avoid powdercoat getting in there? I'm guessing that they'd need to be disassembled but that's just a guess.

Sorry to threadjack, but would caliper paint be a good choice for rotor carriers as well?  Seems it would have to be hardened somewhat to resist rock/gravel hits and heat.  Where would you find it?

Hi Jeff. Thanks for the reply. I suspected that they'd need to be taken apart.
Do you have any first hand experience with caliper paints? A quick search turned up epoxy based paints as being the best for finish quality. Thoughts?

I stopped by the local Canadian Tire tonight and picked up a Duplicolor ceramic brake caliper paint kit. Apparently the ceramic version is somewhat less durable and heat resistant than an epoxy caliper paint but the finish is duller which is what I'd after. I'll give it a try and report back.

Glad you posted up.  I got a baby home powdercoating kit for christmas and have been going apeshit since (to the point where I've color coded the top of my keys).  I'm close to in need of new pads anyway so I'm going to just go in to the shop (I do most of my own work, but I don't make the beast with two backs with my brake systems), have them tear the system down and pull the pistons, tape it up, and knock it out.  I'll post my pics if you post yours
