Oregon and the Aftermarket -- scary!

Imagine if your governor wanted to pass a law thus you couldn't put aftermarket parts on your car, truck or motorcycle?  It is in the process of happening in Oregon.

First item targeted is "tires".  You can only replace the tires on your car with ones that are OEM rated for the size / mileage and rolling characteristics of your factory installed ones. 

I almost never say this, but if you live in Oregon -- talk with your representative now before this goes further.  What fun would it be in everyone driving the same colored Prius, riding stock (non-modified) Ducati's and not being able to take your Jeep offroad because it has "factory approved tires".

Damn Oregon was topping my list of places to move.

It also seems to me that it's a bit to uncompromising to pass in said state.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

Don't come to Oregon.  It is so amazing, gorgeous, and cool in so many ways.  Mountains, beach, valleys, etc all within 3 or 4 hours of each other.  But there are no jobs, public safety is a joke, and it rains a lot.  Houses are overpriced, people are under paid, and there are not enough hot days to make the girls dress skimpy.  I would leave to Washington or Idaho tomorrow if I could sell my house.

I bet al gore is behind this. I'd let it pass, slash all govt officials tires until they decide to get slash resistant ones then sue them. So many things to say, but again, no politics, and ya'll know what im gonna say anyway.

goodluck. NYC is trying to allow cops to ticket and tow parked bikes that dont have EPA stamps on the exhausts.

It is a pretty big extreme considering DEQ requirements do not encompass the entire state

I wonder if it will only be in effect in the pre existing DEQ boundries?

I was planning on Moving to Klamath Falls After a while. I guess I'll just keep the Monster Lic in CA.

threads concerning legislation being introduced are absolutely fine here...especially where it can mean we act on things sooner and make a difference.

The 'political' aspect best avoided is the commentary about it and personal insults that seem to derive therefrom.

I would love to have a stickied section for this kind of announcements that can truly effect our hobby (like the NYC issue) and be able to have good discussions about what to do about it without all the extraneous crap.

The NYC thread showed we can come up with a plan, have good input, and at least make an effort to make (or stop) change for our benefit.   If we make an effort and fail...then we can pregnant dog and moan.

So let's keep this thread to dissecting the Oregon proposal and discussing arguments that can be used to rationally change minds.

Remember those extreme "wheelie" laws that FL proposed and we thought they wouldn't happen?
