I've seen a couple of Monsters with chopped seats, where the passenger portion of the seat had been chopped off.  For those that have done it, how did you do it?  Did you have the seat reupholstered?  Any drawbacks (besides the obvious)?  Does the seat play any structural role in the seat cowl (does the cowl shake if there's no seat beneath it?

Not sure if you're talking about the ubiquitous tail chop or a full on 'bob"

The tail chop is where folks remove the last few inches of the tail section, right before the cross-brace. No real issues with this other than needing a new method for mounting the taillight. But this retains the stock seat, cowl, etc.

A full on "tail bob" is where you cut the frame way back and re-engineer the seat. As far as I know, nobody has done this and still retained the seat cowl.

I'm talking about cutting the seat, not the tail.  Normal tail chop, but with a bobbed seat.

If u have a cowl it hides the pillion seat anyway....why would you chop just the seat and leave the sub frame?

look up Celli's bike. but definitely no place for a cowl. now the DP solo seat might be what you are looking for.

Biggest problem I can see is relocating the latch.

The seat itself is pretty straight forward. Its a plastic pan, foam padding, and a vinyl cover.

Celli mentioned that he put in some extra padding when he did his. I'd shoot him a PM about the pillion-ectomy.

As for the seat cowl, I think it might wobble around a little bit without the support, but not much. If it does, it wouldn't be really hard to reinforce it. Without the seat there, you have all sorts of options.

Is there going to be nothing under the cowl  Huh? I kind of don't understand the purpose  Grin It could make a nifty storage spot i guess!
