That was for a 2007 992cc.
No one gets the same price.
depends on age, postcode, points on licence, how long had licence, comprehensive insurance with hgih %NCB.

You see that's what shits me.

What the F#$k does any of that have to do with a CTP greenslip?

Comprehensive insurance, fire and theft, these I understand - the above criteria is used to determine how risky a proposition you are to insure. But compulsory third party? wtf?

Please if I am missing something here, by all means fill me in, I'm all ears..

OK, time for a beer..... No wait, better make that a burbon

OK I'll bite. Just remember insurance companies can use whatever justification they like bang head. So assuming the greenslip only covers people injured by you and adopting generalisations which insurers love to adopt Roll Eyes:

. Should cost less than cars as the potential for inflicting damage to others is lower laughingdp, but apparently this doesn't matter. Motorcycling is associated with risk taking = more chance of hurting someone
. Age: younger = less fear/experience = more likely to bugger it up and hurt someone; older = slower reflexes = more likely to bugger it up and hurt someone
. Postcode: may indicate population with an increased likelihood of hitting and injuring someone or perhaps an increased likelihood of getting sued
. Points on Licence: shows driving record which may indicate likelihood of hitting and injuring someone
. How long licence held: refer also age and points on licence
. Comprehensive Insurance: relevant for multi-policy discounts, also shows whether you care about the vehicle you are driving/riding and hence your likelihood of hitting and injuring someone
. High NCB: goes someway to indicating driving/riding record refer also points on licence, etc

Note: none of the above are necessarily the views of the author

Me too.
A car driver with a history of DUI gets a cheaper green slip than me, yet that car driver can inflict serious long term injuries on many more people than I could*.
So much for the user pays system.

I want green slips abolished and a levy on petrol (yep, another one).
The more you are on the road the more you pay, the larger the vehicle the more you pay, etc.

Not going to happen though.
The car lobby is too well organised.

* I do recall a BMW rider having a lowside out in the boonies, bike goes under a tourist bus, the bus burns to the ground (everyone was ok).

Yep, Pink slip - about $30.
       RTA rego - $101.

Total cost for Rego for me was approx $430.
I'm 37 and your age effects your greenslip cost.

Location and size of bike also effect the cost of the green slip.

Bazz, the green slip insurance does not offer any cover to yourself it is only for personal injury to others. So you need comprehensive insurance on top of these costs too.

Pink slip (now e-safety check or some such crap) is the roadworthy certificate, needed before registration.

Green slip (compulsory third party insurance) covers other road users if you are responsible for their personal injury - also needed before registration.

Registration fee payable to the government.

At this point your bike can be registered but you would have no insurance cover for any theft or damage to your bike or other vehicles.

So, say 30+300+100+500ish (per bike).

.... and this doesn't include any roadside (mechanical breakdown) assistance.

we don't have privatised 3rd party personal in victoria - it's called the tac levy, and is around $300, possibly more now.  total rego here is about $550 i think, including the $50 levy that's for safety measures or some shit like that.  i never read the actual document, i just pay the fee like everyone else does.  it's not based on any insurance factors afaik except maybe engine size.

so it's about the same, we just don't have annual roadworthies.

well, except that the tac is a huge public cash pot that the government tries (or does actually) to divert funds out of for other stuff i think.  tho it's also one of the reasons road accident victims in victoria get well looked after comparitavely to other states from what i'm told.  i honestly don't pay much attention to state politics.  like the federal, they need a certain amount of money to make it all work and have to get it somehow.  just clowns on swings and roundabouts.  anyway, enough politics.
