Ticks

My dogs come in with a lot of ticks this time of the year. I keep pulling them off and keeping them in a metal filing cabinet like this for future study. Funny thing is i cant find them later on when i go back to look for them.

That doesn't sound good at all!   

Those things can wreak havoc on your dogs and your house if their indoor dogs.  Make sure you use Revolution every month!  I learned the hard way!! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!

I work in an animal clinic and we have to go threw every day and get the dam ticks off the walls and floor.  People bring their animals in for vaccines and there is usually over 100 dogs coming in.  And shit those things are nasty.  We tell them to use Proticol or revolution.  If they are real badly covered from head to toe they really need a good dip.  But some of the ticks that come off these dogs are huge.  Nasty, Nasty things.  Good luck.

We never had a problem with them in the Phoenix area.  I wonder if it's worse in Tucson?  Wait..I do remember that the Mastiff had one once when we were in Chandler. 

Florida was horrible for Ticks though!

These ticks don't seem to be very nervous. Even when I put them into the "filing cabinet." But I've heard quite a bit about the nervous ones myself...

So here it is:  2 years ago last spring I was doing some brush removal for one of my customers. Pretty nice day so shorts are the attire. Nothing unusual as once April hits I won't wear pants until almost November. The day was uneventful and I never felt anything bite me.

Fast forward to the evening. I go to take a leak and      something       feels     weird. Do a quick self check and see something hanging off the right side of my man-purse. Try to brush it away to no avail.

I have a sinking feeling of what it might be so I take a closer look. Appears to be a sunflower seed stuck to me? Then I see the little legs wiglling. YOU DIRTY MOTHERmake the beast with two backsER!! I almost do that Jim Carrey dry heave thing. Damn! Where are the tweezers?

This has now gotten the attention of my girlfriend, who needs to come in and  "help". She's down on her knees with a flashlight while I work away with the tweezers. (mind you this is my first tick removal on anything ever. I now have a dog and am very good at it) Well, doesn't the head end up breaking off in there!

Now that I have to dig a little the girlfriend starts doing the dry heave thing! Everytime she does the flashlight moves and I risk stabbing my boys. I tell her I can handle it but she insists everything is ok and to proceed. Repeat this for about 10 minutes and she finally needs to be sent out of the bathroom until I'm finished.

Anyway it all came out and nothing got infected. Just a hell of a good time, that's all!

I have pretty much become an expert at tick removal. Seldom need tweezers.  Once you get all the dog hair out of the way while keeping the dogs from wiggling all over the place you pretty much have it done.

Yes, Phoenix is not to bad, but here in Tucson the people with allot of land and ranches bring in their heard dogs and boy they are bad, big and gross.  People travel along way to us for shots because we have good deals. $10.00 per shot, no office visit charge.  So needless to say we get all kinds from every where. LOL

because they arent' cats.



when we lived in AL all of our pets (cats included) would get ticks. after we moved to PA we didn't have a pet so i ahvne't had to remove a tick for almost 20 yrs.
i've had chiggers and mosquito bites on the sack, but never a tick. that just doesn't sound like something one should have to deal with.
