I just got back from spending a couple of hours at the new Nichols Motorsports grand opening.  I'm fairly impressed with their Kymco scooters and would seriously consider one if I were in the market for a scooter.  The Sport 150 would be a great little scooter for running around town.

But they have more than scooters there.  They sell helmets and riding gear on both scooter styles and sport riding styles, plus some that would work for adventure riding.  There were representatives from a number of the gear suppliers.  I got full descriptions of the Rev-It and Firstgear jackets.

The best thing of all is that they have a section of stuff that every motorcyclist needs, but you can't ever seem to find anywhere else.  Battery Tenders, tire plug kits, grunge brushes for chains, Cramp Busters (I bought one), and quite a few other things like that.  Obviously the person stocking products knows what motorcyclists need.

I was able to talk to Jon Nichols for a little while, about the new business, about why they won't be a Ducati dealer in the foreseeable future, and about how many times he blew up the engine in his 1991 851 Superbike (4 times).  Plus there was food and a 10% discount on any purchases (not sure if that applies to scooters or not).

It was worth the visit, and if you can get there before 6:00 today, worth stopping in.  There were a lot of different Ducatis coming and going, apparently to show support.

I wish them success in this new business.

It looks like it will work well for longer trips.  I managed to use it riding back to Pleasanton without any problems.  I probably need to take it back off for normal riding, though.  It helped to check out the Cramp Buster web site to see how they recommend to use it.  Now I know that I can bend it way out without damaging it.  Yet another item that will spend most of its life in my left hard bag.  Wink

i spoke with jon this afternoon, and he was very happy with the turnout yesterday at their grand opening.

based on this success, jon will be trying to line up a demo day with the kymco distributor for north america, with the goal of offering group test rides, ala the hyper tour that ducati north america has been doing to great success.  if this comes to pass, expect the same sort of setup ... a bunch of each of the kymco scooters available to test ride in a group, with a leader and a sweep.

ok, you may think that test riding scooters will not be as much fun as a hyper ... and perhaps this is true ... but i can offer that riding scooters is a blast (thanks sig. moore), and can get you into just as much, if not more trouble  [moto]

so, stay tuned, as updates will be posted when known ...

a presto,
