The title says is all. After almost 14,000 miles, I thought it might be time to replace the stock "champion" plugs. I went with NGK iridiums DPR8EIX-9. They've got the threaded tip to accept my plug wires, rather than the little nodule at the top. They also take a slightly larger socket (18mm, 3/4") than what the stock tool kit provides. The "-9" at the end means that they're gapped at .9mm from the factory. Our very own "Mad Scientist" let me know that there are a lot of duc enthusiasts that agree that .9 is the way to go. I just popped them in and away I rode. Low speed stuff is smoother. The transition from idle to throttle on, is night and day. It was getting kinda choppy before I changed the plugs. Got 'em on fleaBay for less than $7.00 a piece.

I've got 22k on my monster now...and I'm not sure if as plug has been changed on any previous services or not....
My Bike's still running great though; aside from needing the idle adjusted a little so that when its cold it revs smoothly.
...I'm probably due for a tune-up.

It's just something that I've never done before (in general). So gapping a plug and all that goes into it would be a new expierence. |

Plugs in & out is really straight forward. Just don't install too tight. It doesn't take much. Gapping is easy but you need a feeler gage or a wire gage. The most improtant thing is making sure the new plugs have the same "reach". That's the length it protrudes into the cyclinder. Too long and the piston will hit it. Not good!

Get some iridium plugs. Awesome performance and pre-gapped. Take the old ones out, put the new ones in. Done...
