Took less than a week to get pulled over...
«

I got pulled over last night on the way home from work, the copper said my CRG barend mirrors were too small- they had to be at least 80mm across, and I had to put my original rear fender/mud guard back on- I've got the DP fender eliminator kit. Does anyone know where I can get a list or handbook that details all these kinda mods for motorcycles and what is or is not allowed? He also mentioned the DP led indicators were too small. Oh and he thought my 696 was a 1098... He also said something along the lines of "I'll stop complaining when you stop killing yourselves"... Yeah, cos I do that for fun almost every other day.

Sorry to hear of your woe.
I know in Sth Aust , the fender eliminator is a BIG no no. Was nailed twice on my old Gixxer.
That's interesting about the mirrors.
Sorry I can't help you with details of legal mods etc.
Sounds like the copper was how would you say - not a motorcycle enthusiest.

somewhere in here
http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/motor/design/adr_online.aspx
is your answer
the rear mud guard must be past a 45 degree angle from the rear axle
i wouldn't of thought a shorter rear mud guard was a short cut to death, i suppose road debris could hit you in the neck.
i never rely on mirrors, don't like them much, i find it safer to look back, but that's me.
The crg mirrors must be close to 80mm.
did u get a warning or fined?
bad luck coming across someone like that.

I only got a warning, but he said if he sees me again he'll be issuing a workorder or fine or something... bad thing is I work next to the police traffic section... I park my bike about 100 metres away from where the traffic coppers park their bikes
So it's not so much bad luck as it was an eventual inevitability... But having said that, I've had other cops look at my bike and comment on how good it looks... especially with the mirrors.
Yeah the CRG mirrors are 3", or 76.2mm. I'm going to see if I can get a permit for all this stuff.
Thanks for the link, I'll have a look through it

I think the main issue with indicators is the distance apart and from the ground !!
I'm not 100% sure but he could be blowing it out his arse trying to intimidate the motorcyclist.
The 45 degree thing is correct but with the additon that the bike is "loaded" when the height is taken.
The only time I've ever been hassled about rear guard height and indicators has been by car cops, who when asked "Do they ride" they give the"not bloody likely, not those deathtraps, etc, etc," So sometimes I think their knowledge pertaining to bikes is a bit, aaahm fanciful! Particularly if they think they are dealing with a Newbie.
The bike plods arnt fussed by stuff like that (generally) unless you've been making a cock of yerself.
Cars are running LED lights, so whats the problem???

what a great way to start getting a new cyclist to dislike police...well done!
76.3 vs 80mm......I bet I know where the frickin 3.7mm can be found...right down his trousers.
frickin stupid....now if you're riding like an idiot....sure get the book out and charge away for 12 sided nuts when 6 is needed if the bloke was doing stoppies in peak hour traffic. But to get a new rider and go to town....not doing much for relations is it?

The only time I've had a problem was when I was pulled over for doing an illegal left hand turn into a side street. Bloody hell I can't believe that it is illegal to turn left!
Anyway, the copper was booking me and started to ask about my open clutch. His opinion was that my wire cover was insufficient. He asked is it standard and I said yes. Well its standard if you by it from STM along with the pressure plate
i guess he was happy enough giving me a fine for $198 and taking 3 points off my licence

mate, in Sydney I thought it was illegal if you were STRAIGHT.
(Vics, let's get together, wear black, drink coffee and talk badly about the Sydneysiders!)

nah i wasn't being a cock on the ride, cos I usually pass a few cops down that particular stretch of road. Dunno what his issue was. Oh I forgot to tell you, after he gave me that stern talking to he, rode off and came to a T junction where he could only turn left since it had a median strip in between the two sides of the road, so then he turns right up the footpath and rides along there til he got to a road where he could turn right...
