I have an '08 Acura MDX that is due for its first oil change. Wondering if its worth the extra dough.

They sell a bunch of ultra long life oils, last I saw.

12$ for a quart AMSOIL???

You got taken my man or they raised their prices.

If you want the name of a Amsoil Rep, I can throw you a few and they could get you a case for around 85$, at least that is what I paid last year.

We run Mobil 1 synthetic in our cars.  Synthetic oil makes me more comfortable with our cars' long recommended oil change intervals.  (Oil changes occur at ~8-10k intervals.)

Our cars specifically recommend Mobil 1 synthetic in the owner's manuals.  What does your Acura manual say?

Any brand mentioned in a owner's manual is purely there because the maker paid for it to be.....

Ducati used to have that Shell Advance sticker on the engine cover.

Do they even import that stuff?

Speedbag

How many miles are on it? Is it completely broken-in?

I'm 100% in favor of using synthetic, but only once an engine's got a few thou on it. Rings seat better with dino oil, and I've heard of plenty of folks pregnant doging about oil consumption if they switch to synthetic too soon.

Of course, breaking it in like you own it (not abusing it) goes a long way on any engine.  ;)

All VW's and Audi's take synthetic.

With the longer service intervals now days you really are better off spending the extra for synthetic.  Mobile 1 would be just fine.

I dont doubt it. It's taking me every fiber of my being to not badmouth the Ducati dealer that sold me the stuff. Not to mention those $31.50 sparkplugs. Thats each plug BTW.

Actually it took me great strength to not go balistic while at the shop. However, I needed the stuff as my scooter was not running. I did draw the line at 152 dollars for a battery. That I did find elsewhere for 80 dollars.

FWIW, I dont think I will ever by another thing from that dealership.
