I'm going to take mine off today and go at it with the dremel.  Worst case scenario, it's off the bike and I like that.

The plastic  uglyness is no match for several of the Dremel attachments.
I just worked on it slow, until it looked like I wanted it to.
I'll smooth it out some more and paint it glossy black soon, but for now, just having that terrible thing gone is lovely.  It was always the part that made a little tunnel for the chain that bothered me the most.  It just looks so..........."250cc", not that it's bad, but it's a 695, not a 250.
Here's a pic of the choppin' scene from last night.

And on the bike.

How is the strength factor of it now that it has been cut up?  Is it still rigid even though there is no side support?  Is it flimsy?

WetDuc

It stays very rigid and doesn't move when it's mounted on the swingarm.
If I would have left it full length, I think it would have been kinda wobbly.

Hmmmm..... mine has kind of been modified by the previous owner.  I think I will attempt this to make it shorter, however I will leave a partial bit of the sides on where it covers the sidewall.

I did the same thing. Didn't want it off but wanted something different with it. Here is mine:

I like that it's there but that I can see the tread through it. One of the most unique compliments that I got shortly after I did it was that someone thought that it was a little S&M.  [evil]

LOL.   [cheeky]
