I have picked up some sharkskinz body work for my monster and need to trim it to get a good fit.  Can anybody give me advice on the best way to do this.  I have limited experience with fiberglass.

I've always just used a dremel to trim bodywork.  Measure twice, cut once.  Make sure you wear a mask and long sleeves.  That fiberglass dust itches like hell.

I used to work in the boat building industry spraying a chopper gun all day.  My experience was that cold water didn't open up the skin pores and let the fiberglass into your skin.  A hot shower after work, and I'd be itching all evening.  Of course, YMMV.

i remember it differently, but then again im always doing bodywork outside in texas summer heat.  the cold water would make me itch more than ever, but hot water seemed to do the trick. 

btw, what does "ymmv" mean?

I've always done cold water cuz I assumed --like Mash-that hot water would make it itch more.  But like Mash also said, YMMV.    Grin

hot water always worked for me, too...  Cheesy

PPE is the main thing, like spidey said. respirator, sleeves, and I would wear latex or nitryl gloves, too.  but then all the fiberglass work I've ever done was fixing stuff on cars, so the gloves made for easy cleanup what w/the resin and all.

dremel sanding drums are awesome!

I use a die grinder for cutting most fiberglass, but motorcycle fairings are pretty thin and you can probably use most anything that will leave a clean line. Use masking tape to cut against.

Try the icy/hot shower.  All cold 1st to rinse of the stuff on top then switch to hot to open pores and clean out anything that got in there already.
