I would be right there with everyone on the spool issue. I thought my pops was nuts when he put that combo in his wheeler...but it works really well. it will most def' change on-highway driving characteristics, but that is what the old school locking hubs are for

Ha! a land cruiser would still be in the ditch. jeeps trump all

Dude, before I became a Porsche tech I used to build Jeeps. Toss the spool. You WILL regret it and so will your steering. If you don't want to pop for a full on ARB or Detroit for the front then just toss in a Lock Right. They work good in a front axle but suck in a rear. Didn't you say you were running 44s front and rear?  If anything put the spool out back and run the ARB up front.  It will still bring the suck but won't be as bad as having the spool up front. I won't talk to you anymore and will only say mean things behind your back if you put that spool up front. You would need full hydro steering just to turn the wheel but the jeep will still want to go straight. I had a customer that wanted me to put one in a buggy for him. He broke front axles every time he went out after that. Then I put in a Detroit and all was good. Go with the lock right in the front if your concerned with cost.

Mother

a spool in the front can be disengaged via the hubs for 2-wheel on-highway, in the rear it is just locked in all the time causing the front to push...regardless of which end it goes in, it is going to suck. I need  pair of ARBs. anyone want to give me 2 grand?

Mother

isn't the lock-right the one that pops and snaps like an old hooker's knees when it engages/disengages?

it probably wouldn't have gone in the ditch...stupid thinking car hovers in place when you try to spin it out

TiNi

agreed.... the audi would have never gone in the ditch in the first place  [thumbsup]

Porsche Monkey

Any automatic locker will click and pop sometimes. In the front, with hubs it is a non issue because you would be unlocking them anyway.

Yeah it'll be just fine when you disengage the hubs for highway but I'm talking about when your out bouncing around in four wheel drive.  Even if its muddy as hell out the Jeep won't turn with the spool in front.
