Looks like I'm getting Termis!
«

In the next couple weeks I think I'll be getting Termis for my 696. But I've got loads of questions. I don't even know where to begin....
-What is a reasonable OTD price for them? (Including labor and all that)
-I'm not sure if I want the DB Killers in or out. I've never heard Termis in person, and the Youtube videos are inconclusive. When I have the dealer install the Termis, do I have to decide right then and there whether I want the DB Killers in or out? How easy are they to install/remove? Is this something I can do by myself whenever I feel like it?
-I actually like the look of the stainless steel termis better than the CF. But is there a difference in sound?
-One benefit (I think) is that the CF termis would not get hot like the stock cans, right? But what about the SS termis, would they still heat up?
-What about insurance? I think I read somewhere in my insurance policy that the bike can't have any performance upgrades. I would hate to total the bike and then find out that my insurance company won't cover it because I have Termis on.
-What about insuring the Termis, I'm guessing even if the bike would be covered in an accident, the additional cost of the Termis would not be covered, right?
-Do I need to ask my dealer to reset the TPS?
-Are there any other questions I should ask them?
Ok, that's all I can think of for now, but any additional input on things I haven't touched on would be much appreciated. Thank.

Not sure on this but I would think whatever the cost plus no more then a couple hours labor to install them. More if you are having a new ecu, pc3, or other electronic modification.
-I'm not sure if I want the DB Killers in or out. I've never heard Termis in person, and the Youtube videos are inconclusive. These are pretty easy to get in and out. Might want to have the dealer show you how but it is not bad at all.
-I actually like the look of the stainless steel termis better than the CF. But is there a difference in sound?
I have heard CF pipes and titanium I personally think the CF sounds better. Hard to describe but CF is like a more naturally, soft deep vs. the titanium which is still deep but with a more metal sound to it. Maybe it is all in my head but one of my riding buddies with CF on his s4r described it basically the same way when I asked him.
-One benefit (I think) is that the CF termis would not get hot like the stock cans, right? But what about the SS termis, would they still heat up?
All pipes heat up even the completely cored stock exhaust I made got warm. The Termis will be less hot than stock and with the db killers in will be hotter than with them out
-What about insurance? I think I read somewhere in my insurance policy that the bike can't have any performance upgrades. I would hate to total the bike and then find out that my insurance company won't cover it because I have Termis on.
If this is true than switch ins. companies. Mine is covered for an additional $4k in mods and they asked me if I needed more. They told me to call them if I made any additional modification to keep the receipts and add the additional cost in coverage. This includes performance mods.
-What about insuring the Termis, I'm guessing even if the bike would be covered in an accident, the additional cost of the Termis would not be covered, right?
-Do I need to ask my dealer to reset the TPS?
If you are not removing the airbox but are adding the pipes you will need some fueling adjustment but fiddling with the stock components may get you running well enough. Most people add some other method of additional fuel control
-Are there any other questions I should ask them?
If you have a warranty will this affect it.
Ok, that's all I can think of for now, but any additional input on things I haven't touched on would be much appreciated. Thank.

I've got the CF Termi's. Paid about $1400, installed. Kits cost a little over $1200. They don't get anywhere as near as hot as the stockers, which have a Catalytic in the base of them. Soundwise, I can't comment on the difference.
You can reset the TPS yourself. Just power cycle the ignition 3 times in a row, without starting or touching the fast idle switch. You could do install job, yourself, if you are reasonably handy. Hardest part is getting to the ECU & airbox. Only reason I had the dealer do it was I wasn't aware at that time that the TPS on the 696 could be reset without the Ducati Diagnostic tool.

Needtorque- Thanks for the thorough reply
z0mb1e_Duc- Thanks for the info on resetting the TPS. No chance I could install it myself... I'm soooo unhandy

to install the pipes is a breeze. two springs and two bolts. done.
the install the air filter, you have to take off the tank covers, move the tank aside and change the air filter.
the ecu is the same location and same thing as the air filter change. (plus unhooking the battery before)
all in all in a non-handy person could do in 2 hours.
tools need are in the tool kit that came with your bike.
i'm certain someone could write up a simple 'tutorial' for you use. save yourself about 2-3 hours worth of labor costs.
oh and you should be able to find the SS kit for less than a grand.

Seems kinda ironic coming from the guy who started this thread.....

But that was when I first got my bike. I get the hype now.

Ironic, yes, but it also got us one of the all-time greatest statements on the DMF:
Termis sound like God's having an orgasm. Housepets explode into flame. Women collapse in ecstasy. Children bleed out of their ears. Grown men sob hysterically. Cops flee for their lives. - Spidey
I think you'll be very happy with the pipes. I also agree that the CF Termis have a richer, more natural sound. The SS ones have a little harsher, more metallic tone.
Warranty shouldn't be affected if the dealer does the install.

That statement was one of the primary reasons I decided to pull the trigger. Spidey should get 50% off his next purchase.

I have the CF kit, I have seen the SS pipes and they look very good and I would be happy with them, and they are cheaper.
You must remove the baffles and throw them away if you want a pure, manly sound. If your gonna keep them in, you should just keep your stock exhausts. Or sell your bike and get a scooter.
The SS kit was a little over $900, I paid $1300 + install for my CF kit.
Good luck!

Just got back from some demo rides here in Tampa FL. I was behind a 696 with carbon Termis. DB killers? Leave em out.

The SS ones have a little harsher, more metallic tone.
Keep in mind that it's a matter of preference—the one thing I like about my stock cans is that rappy 2-stroke overtone I sometimes hear with my visor open. I would avoid CF cans for exactly that reason.

Where are you guys finding full termi kits for 1400 bucks and under? Both my closest dealers told me 3 grand for a full system on my 2007 S4R T. I really want termi but I only have 2 grand. So it looks like arrow for me.

I paid $814 installed for SS Termi's. There is no airbox mod, only a new element and ECU. Never had the db killers installed. Dealer gave them to me with the stock parts, but why would you want them installed when it sounds so good without them?

I think people are referring to the slip ons and not the full system
