Absolutely tragic incident.. but if I'm reading this correctly the victim had one friend die in a similar fashion a week before, and another friend die in another speed related wreck the following week!?

I'm just one old curmudgeon who's been lucky enough to live through a bunch of risky behavior in earlier years.. but even in those situations I realized that whatever consequences I might face were of my own doing.

'Fraid personal responsibility has gone out the window these days.  Statements like this one from the snopes article don't help the situation or address the real issue.. "We've got to do something to save these kids, We've got to do something to support them.."

WE can't do a single thing in the world to save "these kids" from themselves.  Nobody can change "these kids" behavior but the kids themselves.

[roll]

The sad truth is that some of this is still natural selection at work. People don't like to think about it but Darwinism is still shaping us, kids that set things on fire with sparking barbie doll roller-skates don't make it to breed.

Sometimes the ladies at work fuss at the way I ride on the interstate in the morning.  I might be considered a bit squidly.  According to them, I follow too closely and weave in and out of traffic.  All this is true from their perspective.  They don't see that I can stop quicker and make safe passes and lane changes with less room than they can in a car.  And I do try to consistently use my turn signals.
I enjoy the interstate in the morning as long as I don't get caught up in traffic.  It can be quite fun and challenging.  Definitely not a time to hit autopilot and zone out.  Be on your game or get squashed.

I think that before "fast bikes" get banned on the street there should be a law that only riders with a certain amount of experience should be aloud to get super bikes; specially liter bikes.  That would decrease the death rate substantially in my opinion.  How many times have you talked to a young kid with a liter bike only to find out its his first bike.  How can he have the proper amount of respect for that bike?  I had a 250 ninja for a long time before I got a bigger bike...Here is some food for thought.

 >:( Oh that's fantastic!!! HEY CHAOS ARE YOU STILL LURKING!?!?! This is why we look down on squid, it has nothing to down with elitism or I'm better than you because I wear gear. It's because it draws the wrong kind of attention to our sport!!!  >:(

The one thing that I can't stand about the statistic the lady quoted about sportbike riders having death rates 4 times higher than any other class is that it ignores age.  There is a huge age difference between sportbike riders and cruiser riders, touring riders, and any other class they want to put to them.  Then when you normalize for age by looking at age-related statistics for car deaths, it's not nearly as much of a shocker.

Squid.. tough to define, but like the supreme court said about porn.. "I know it when I see it".

Suffice it to say, the kid screaming by you (w/o adequate sightlines to pass safely) with a girlfriend on the pillion wearing hotpants and flipflops...

..is a SQUID.

'Course this 'tard would argue that he's not hurting you.  OTOH, when his juvenile behavior puts him down w/ grilfriend sliding on the pavement behind him, I doubt girlfriends parents would agree with him.

I know the ER nurses who have to debride his roadrash (& girlfriend's) wouldn't agree with him.  I can promise you the MD conducting his (& girlfriend's) skin grafts wouldn't agree with him.  I doubt the insurance co paying for those skingrafts agrees with him.  I'm pretty sure that you and I (paying higher motorcycle and health insurance premiums because of this idjit's stunts and consequences) agree with him either.

Guess squid ends up being short for motorcycle mounted moron.

One problem w/ riding like an immature kid, is that you don't ever get to realize it unless you manage to stay alive long enough to grow up.

Too many squids don't live that long.

[roll]

Didn't get a shot of this squid before...

..but here's a photo of the squid after.

Wow, you can see the blood on the rear tire, frame (by the foot pegs) and rear tire of the truck. Sobering picture.

No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

This might be the definitive squid video.

Hummm...? Did any of you see a Duc in that video? Squids must LOVE the rice bikes.
