916SPS and 996SPS are the same bike.  The idle trimmer (on the ecu) is disabled on the UM171.

Does that mean no electronic trim via DDS or other diagnostic hookup, or that the potentiometer trim is disabled, or?

the trimmer on the p8 is a screw device on the ecu body.  the fim eprom disables it at software level.  i assume it's a 16 number map somewhere in the software that instead of being a sliding scale from say 60 to a0 is set to all 80.  that's what it is in the aprilia maps anyway.
