Finally got around to painting my cans and slapping a new top triple on.    I have the 3M stuff to do the forks next...Too much black?  Is there such a thing?

The new paint job looks awesome and no there can't be too much black on a Dark.
I have been thinking about doing my forks black too.
What exactly is the 3M stuff you mentioned?

a roll of 3M vynil someone on this board turned me onto.  I ordered a few months back off eBay but the process has turned out to be much more labor intensive than just slapping it on.   I want a dual headlight or a Spiegler unit, so I may wait until I have the $$$ for that mod, then do the whole front at the same time (headlight and blacken the forks)

Okay it was the same stuff I was thinking of.
Do you know if anyone who has used the 3M tape on their forks has pics posted?

The new triple is sweet.  Cool

looks good...

are the top of the forks flush with the triple?  so you raised the front end up a bit?

Thanks guys

Rameses has a thread going about 20 posts down from this one, I believe there are some pics in there.  It does look sweet.

I didn't raise the front end.  On the 695, the stock top triple has a slight bend to it, making the tops of the forks stick out a little. that's what kept me from just grinding off the bar mounts, instead, I had to go with this one from SpeedyMoto.  I'm pretty happy with it so far.

ah, gotcha.  are those cans stock or did you core them out a bit?  i had something similar on my '00 900 and after i had them modified the sound was awesome, a nice low rumble.

if you're going with the blacked out theme, how about ceramic coating those headers?

Yes, they are cored and I LOVE the sound.  I would highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about it.  I was about to pull the trigger on a set of Termi's until I heard these cored.  I would really like a set of Boom Tubes, I'm sure they are plenty loud and they have the added benefit of cleaning up the back of the bike.

Ceramic coating on the headers could be an option.  I commute about 70 miles a day on the bike though and would hate to be without for for however long it takes to get it done.  I think one of the next big projects is going to be to have all the little nubs and mounts cut off the frame, that'll clean it up a little too.  I'm going to have someone do it as I SUCK at painting.

The sound will be a bit different with the boom tubes (i have them)...  definitely louder.  If you drive that often you'd have some ringing in your ears unless you got them baffled a bit.

I think if you sent the headers out for jet-hot coating you'd probably get them back pretty quickly...  www.jet-hot.com.  I'm thinking of sending the boom tubes out for this.
