Need some creative ideas for my cyclecat triple clamp issue

Hey Guys,

I need some creativity here. I have a cyclecat DTC-7 Triple Clamp that's been sitting around in my garage. I'd like to use it but I dont want to use the riser adapters. I would rather have the riser clipons sit below the triple and camp to the fork.

For those who are familiar with this now non existent model, the tabs for the guages are on the riser adapers and not built into the triple like its successor the DTC-8.

Is there any way to rig the existing setup to secure the guages or am I S.O.O.L.

Again, some creative options needed. I currently have an 05 S2R 800. As always with me, budget is LOW so spending money on a new triple is out of the question.

Strip the original anodizing off.  Machine the tabs off (or grind them off and carefully file/polish out) and drill new holes for the gauge mount. 

Then either powdercoat, anodize or rattle-can it.  (although beadblasted with a clearcoat is just as cool also)

Mark, I think you're thinking of it backwards. The DTC-8 top triple has machined tabs built into them. This allows you to set the gauges into the tabs just like the stock clamps. My DTC-7 has tabs on the risers not the triple clamp. Since I dont want to use the risers, I need to support the guages some other way.

...but drill and tap only after bolting it up to see where the gauges/headlight bracket line up with the tabs.

I figured it would come to that.. Looks like the triple clamp and riser assembly is going up for sale. I'll post up there later.

Since I figured it would come down to that, here's the next question. Can the stock triple be polished easily? I want to polish and then brite dip the upper and lower clamps to match my cyclecat clipons.

Any special tools needed for polishing aluminum?

To start, file off any cast lines, then sand everything down starting with say 100 grit sandpaper working up to 400- or 600-wet/dry sandpaper.

Then off to the wheel...I use a bench grinder and a polishing wheel.  You can get polishing compound the same place you get the wheel.

I polished my lower triple this way. 

IMO both upper and lower should look the same.

I would contact Juan.  He polished & painted his stock triple.  There's a picture of it in the BOMB section and it looks the business.

Fab a plate to mount the gauges that bridges the 2 forward most (riser mount) bolt holes.

Easy enough, but not too sure if it will look good.
