« on: March 25, 2009, 12:43:32 AM »

was riding along the bondi junction espressway on the ol 620
in 3rd sitting about 7000revs doing just on 80
when all of a sudden she started to throw some weird noises from the exhust sounded a little like air riffle shots
then all of a sudden something just does'nt feel right then it drops to 2000revs and the throttle wont respond
i s*?t myself as im slowing down with cars going past at me 80 beeping and me with no power slowing fast
i put it into 2nd still nothing
put into 1st and she comes back to life.... just
then she splutters to the grassy bit and i get her on the grass and try to figure out what happened
after 10 min i start her again she sounds not quite right but is going
i put it into 3rd same thing happens but not as dangerous as im on a back rd
now high revs in 2nd she splutters and i get the air riffle like sounds as well as the power cuts out and then surges back into life

now frasier's recon it was a bad batch of fuel
but im 1/2 way through a tank
they told me to just get through the tank and fill her again
cant get hold of flywheels no one was piking up and i was to scared to ride down there

any ideas what might be causing it
no lights are on in the console

help is much appreciated  bow down

Bigfella,

Sounds like your spark plugs might be fowled.
What fuel did you put in?
what year 620?

Try to top up now, use only 91 unleaded. Also try to clean your plugs or just spent $6 and chuck  some new ones in.
that's where I'd start and see what happens from there. Had the same problems when I first got mine.

cheers
Matty...

+1 on the plugs! Wouldnt even waste my time cleaning them, once they shit themselves they have done their dash. Cheapest and easiest thing to check!  waytogo

And dont bother with the old fuel, ditch it for washing parts. Get some 'good' fuel from a 'good' supplier without the cane sugar shit it, that definitely wont help . Roll Eyes

I use Mobil all the time for both the 750 (91) and the DS (95 or 91). And the 750 plays up bigtime (popping, farting, fouling plugs etc) if I attempt to run it on anything but the 91.  waytogo

before you have it moved over to Flywheels.
Go get two plugs from Ron swap them over and see if that fixes the problem.
Might save yourself $$$ on a tow truck.
Worth the $6-$8 on plugs.

Pull out the spark plugs and look at them, you'll soon see if they're filthy or not. Clean them a bit first, two spark plugs do not just stop working for no reason, as for the type of Spark plugs, just ask the dealer or service person the type you need and they'll give you the right ones.
I would not replace them until you've thrown out the fuel in the tank and given it a good wash out with some metho, this'll help get rid of any water that may have contaminated your fuel, i'd then only put one or two litres of fuel in plus a cup  of metho to help disperse any more water and try and give it a run first with the old (cleaned) plugs. I'd also want to look at the fuel filter too but I believe  it's inside the tank on the 620 and will be a bit of a PITA.
Don't leave the metho in there for days on end as there's still some problems with Duc's and alcohol in the fuel apparently.
All of the above will cost you under 20 bucks so it's worth a try.
Let us know how you go.

well that's good and bad.
You've learned something, where your spark plugs are and how to get them in and out.
Now we'll see what flywheels has to say.

Bigfella,

I wouldn't rush to get the bike into a shop. Unless of course its your only mode of transport and/or its under warranty?

Get ye ole WD40 or some electrical contact spray. Check some basic connections near fuse box - simply follow leads around bike n unplug connections n spray.

Mate if its $$$$ your concerned about headin to the bike shop is gonna open up your back pocket - As Matty suggested you've already learnt something with the plugs - go ahead and challenge yourself with a few other minor checks and inspections.

The Nugget factor.

I see this quoted a lot, what people should realise is that WD40, rp7 etc is an insulator and should only be used elecrically to disperse water if you get anything wet. I'd like a dollar for the number of times I've had to clean this crap out of gear. ( if that was the case I'd have $26.35)
Try and avoid spraying it inside connectors as you can make things worse, sometimes just the act of unplugging and replugging connections can get things going again. Use a proper "contact cleaner" and you'll be right.
BTW I've been an Electrical/ electronic tech  for 20 years so I have had some experience in these matters.  Smiley

Conductive grease. There's various compounds depending on the type of metals you are using it on. Just gotta be careful you only use a tiny bit and that you don't bridge any other connections with it.
The PC111 kit came with plain old silicon grease if I remember rightly, smearing  that around the connector to keep out moisture is the go,  but I'd be inclined not to stick any between the actual copper to copper connections as it's a very good insulator.
