Spring almost here, mods and pics

Spring is finally here so I rolled the bike out for the first time in a while. Over the winter I did the following:

- rearsets
- removed side panels
- cleaned up wiring
- header wrap on exhaust
- sprocket cover
- carbon fiber belt covers
- pilot road 2ct rear tire

I really like how these mods opened up the look of the bike. I am trying to go for the minimalist look. I guess the next thing is a tail chop, but I have a Road Racing short beer tray on there and it looks pretty decent for not being chopped.

That's the shitz, what year is that, 99? Taking the side panels, hugger and stock rearsets off really opened it up. [thumbsup]

BTW,  Where you get the frame plugs?

Its a '99 750. The frame plugs are STM. They are really nice quality. I got them on eBay.

Yeah I thought they might be...seems weird cause mine is a '00 and they never seem to have them for mine. How close is the color to the frame, I can see that the finish seems different.

They are Style & Performance. I like how they moved my feet up and back. It really transformed the way I ride, in a good way. The quality is decent. I've seen other brands that have a better fit and finish, though. What bothers me about them is that the shifter is now too close to the kickstand and its harder to get my toe under it to upshift.

Did you route that oil cooler that way, or has it always been like that?!?  Did you notice any advantage to placing it like that?

Its always been that way. I didn't buy the bike new, so I can't say if its stock or not. The appearance of the lines and fasteners are stock...

Actually, I was just reading another thread where folks had rerouted the line that crosses over the belt covers, to look less conspicuous. I was seriously considering that as my next mod.

Yeah, they're not as close in color as I'd like. they are very bright gold color, while the frame is a lot darker and more muted. Also, they are a llittle too large in diameter for my taste, compared to the size of the frame end.

Whereabouts do you live? I'm always keeping my ears open for an group rides, but it seems like the groups are either slow cruisers or hyper fast squid/stunters. I can keep a decent pace but I'm not trying to kill myself or get arrested!

Ok, the reason I ask is that the valve access covers on the horizontal cylinder have been swapped.  The lower one (which currently supports your oil cooler) should be the upper one and visa-versa (they swap directly so no issues there).  The oil cooler should be mounted nearly straight up and down (slight cant forward of a few degrees notwithstanding).  This is an interesting mounting arraingement, but not stock and not recommended for proper cooling and proper front tire/fender clearance.

All told, you have the pieces there just in the wrong order.  You'll need a 4mm and a 5mm allen key to swap parts over and might not need the 17 or 19mm wrench (I forget which on a '99) to undo the oil cooler lines.

Wow, you have a sharp eye! I never noticed that. So, basically, the correct placement is further up and closer to the engine? But the routing of the oil lines remains the same, right?

This must explain the scuffing on my front fender. If you zoom in on the first pic you can see it on the back side of the fender.
