I need to break down and buy a new helmet one day....mine is like 8-9 years old and been through numerous "drops" and a crash. but I originally paid like $550 bucks, so it better last a while! I have to say though, I will probably always buy Arai....the other helmets I have owned just have not been as comfortable. Also, whenever I try on a new helmet, they just dont have that good old comfy feel my old helmet has (but they do have the new car smell!). I have never owned a Shark, but they seem to be rather popular.

I think it really depends on the shape of your head and how you like your helmet to fit. A lot of helmets smoosh my ears, and the face bar tends to be really close to my chin which I find uncomfortable. The Shark sems to have larger or better shaped ear cups and I don't run my chin into the face bar when I talk to myself.  :P I've heard the ventalation works well in them as well, we shall see if I ever figure out the cycle, maybe I'll go for a ride with my head out the sun roof to try it out.  ;)

Joe Cat races with a Shark helmet.  He loves it so much he won't wear anything else.  Street or track.  8 to 9 years old?  OVERDUE for new head protection Bro!

I think Erik (our resident helmet expert) says replace your helmet at least every 7 years (whoops, he just corrected me, 5 years).  Cooleye, we've got a sweet Colin Edwards Replica RX-7 for $781.95.  You'll be the envy of the club!

Strange you said Colin Edwards, cause that is exactly what I have now! The Colin Edwards from his superbike days (circa 2000)...and as far as getting the new one, I will start saving my pennies now!  :'(

I have a good buddy who used to make fun of my cheap helmets (M2R & Icon), he was hot to trot on Arai because that was his newest.  So I bought an Arai and love it.  Now he's bought a Suomy and a Shoei since.  He's a helmet junky.  If he'd spend less on helmets, he could buy a Ducati (he's a Honda man right now).
