Why just the rear? (Ohlins 696 related)

I know Ohlins makes a unit for the 696. Why just the rear and not the front as well? Is handling all in the rear? I'm not to savvy on moto suspensions.

I suspect Ohlins has forks that will fit, ~$2800 or so.
Front and rear suspension are both important.

I saw at Commonwealth that a rear Ohlins shock was 1600 bucks....ouch. My buddy just went in on a group buy and got a remote res, hydralic preload adjustment Ohlins for 1000. It made it an easy decision about a regular 1100 vs the 1100S which is 2000 more than the regular.

M 1100 S
It would be bad mojo to wait on a wrecked one.. That means someone crashed.
I did lust over the 1100S this past Tuesday at my local dealership. Man it was f-ing nice. I gawked at the price tag though. I will say that the model I saw was decked out with Ducati Performance goodies (Termis, clutch cover, carbon bits, etc).

You can replace the internals on your springs often. Find old sbk front, etc.

No, but with lots of fork changes, you shim the lower triple, and get top triple opened up to the 53mm dia. Not sure what the stock 696 fork is though.
I'm sure there's a race-tech kit that will fit and you ought to look into the work the guys at Traxxion Dynamics do. They are fantastic!

I just browsed their site and liked what I read..

They are fantastic. My rear shock is from the (Penske make - set up wonderfully), and in thinking about "just what in the hell am I going to do to fix the front end?" (I weigh in at 2+ bills, and stock valving sucks), I decided to call them up and shoot the shit.
How do you really get my business? Don't try to upsale me with shit I don't need, and they don't - Even if I was like "are you sure I shouldn't save up and get the ultimate kit?" They were honest, asked me questions, and we arrived at a good answer. I'm thrilled with their services, and will keep using them again in the future.
Now that being said, I can't knock the "other guys" too, that are definitely out there. I just haven't used them, and I have used Traxxion.

What kind of adjustments came with the DU 737? rebound/compression? there are double and triple clickers and all sorts of fancy odds and ends, but at that price (seems like a bargain), I'd be interested to see if you got any extra pizazz.

I've got the Ohlins remote adjuster rear and a race tech valve job on the front. The bike feels very balanced and doesn't do anything wierd. I occasionally bottom the front, but not often, so I think it's pretty close. I think it's a good combination, at least without having to spend $2000-$2800 for a set of forks, on a bike worth about $6000. It does seem a little sensitive to tire wear, but I put that down to the fork/shock combination letting me know what is happening more with the tires.

I also have the DU-737 on my 696, it is the same unit that is supplied to Ducati for the 1100S, the same that Ducati wants $1600 for, I paid $599 with it set up for my weight and riding style.
The stock unit performs so poorly that its like a new bike with the rear Ohlins.
Regarding Traxxion.....I have used them before but its a no go for the 696 forks, they cannot/will not do them. I dropped mine off after they assured me that they could.
Here is a link to my post on another forum :
http://www.ducatimonster.org/forums/accessories-mods/193034-traxxion-696-fail.html
Problem with them and everyone else is the strange cartridge/damper setup. Correcting it will require new forks, none of which are available as a direct bolt on in the aftermarket yet and Ducati want more than twice what the stock 1100 or 1100S forks are worth. I contacted Ohlins and they will not sell the 1100S spec forks to the public because of their "agreement" with Ducati who wants $2400 PER LEG.
