UPDATE: Thanks all for your replies.... the reason i was going to try to take the fork caps off is that in the picture in the rizoma instructions the forks look like that has been done to them although now i now that must be a different model that they are showing.
Also the triple clamp was completley jammed down, ive now figured out why; the two screws which connect the dials to the bike and then the triple clamp go through a rubber mounting with a screw bit on both ends these are completley corroded cause water somehow got in there and instead of simply lifting out were completley jamming the whole thing, (i think theres been some kind of reaction with water aluminium and steel) ive now disconnected headlights etc and mannaged to get these out (although they are completley corroded and im gonna have to get some new ones before i go on...........)
by the way i have to take the triple clamp off because the set has a new on and the old triple wouldn't work.
Once agin thanks all for your help any other suggestion would be greatly appreciated
Kudos for having the balls to jump right in to working on your bike, but shame on you for not doing your homework!
My recommendations are (1) with the help of the
Search button, do a little (or a lot) of reading on this board, and (2) buy a shop manual for your bike and start reading that too.
I consider myself average at best as far as mechanical skills go, but with a group of friends who work on their bikes, and reading posts in the Tech section (particularly those of Ducpainter, Brad Black, Duck Stew and especially Speeddog to name a few) and my shop manual, I've broadened my knowledge base and over a few years, I've gone from changing my oil to valve adjustments and more.
