So I just took a look at Speedymoto's belt and sprocket covers and have a couple questions.  Are there any drawbacks to installing these?  Kinda looks like they leave these components open to being worn much more quickly than with the factory pieces.  Any opinions are appreciated.

rain getting in there would be a drawback, but easier to check for wear is a plus. also they look good

and i heard a rumour of one bike that got damaged when a rock flew into his belts? unlikely of course

Removed my covers over the weekend after speaking with my dealer as they were installing my Nemesis 2.  He advised me that the covers were there to make sure we didn't get injured rather than protecting the parts.  So...after that, the covers were removed.  Looks very nice without the big black plastics covering them.

+1 to that, I am at +10k miles without covers in all sorts of bad weather, and hell even a few bad dirt roads in the mix.

You will be fine without them.

I've run my bike the same way for about 30,000 km's and while I like the look better, I did have to replace two rollers from exposure to inclement weather.

Thats a big risk, I've read stories on the forum where peoples belts have blown and the warranty was voided. That is niether here nor there. I personally think the risk of some crap geting in there while rideing is too great. Think about how much stuff hits your legs. Maybe the sprocket is not so bad, but I would not risk the belts.

Could you link to those? I have heard of ONE TIME that someone got a rock in there without belt covers on since 2005...

With my luck, I'll be the 2nd one to get a rock in there. I'll keep mine on.

No belt covers=Russian roulette. The front wheel will throw anything, esp in a turn. The engine is right in sight of the debri. Your lucky if all you do is bend a valve when the belt does snap

Theres more than one case.
theres at least the one of damage caused by a stone.

And theres others of having to replace tensioners and bearings .

So yeah theres maybe only one one case of catostrophic damage but there are loads more of added wear and tear.

Its not a big deal but definately something you should be aware of.

Yup, you.  Wink There's more than a couple people who have taken a dremel to their stock covers with good results. Some just cut out holes, others cut holes and put in clear windows for the look and maintained protection.

The ONLY two I have found are Rizoma and SpeedyMoto.  The issue with the SpeedyMoto's is that they still leave all the rollers open, which really doesn't provide any protection, but in my opinion, they look better than the Rizomas.  If anyone knows of any other options, please let me know.
