Greatest quote ever about motorcycles?

I found this in the April issue of my new fav magazine, Performance Bikes (from across the pond). I'll preface the quote with the following statement: One of the worst things about my last job at the BMW-Ducati store was having to smile and nod on countless occasions as some old buffoon sneered at the Ducatis, and wouldn't shut up about his gigantic touring machine or boring anemic KLR. I've long thought that if it's not fast and sexy, it might as well be a car. This quote puts it better than I ever could!
"None of us 'need' to ride bikes, certainly not over about 200cc anyway. I've just got rid of the Bandit because it was an exercises in tedium by NOT being better than me. I want a bike to be capable of things I'm not so I can at least aspire to something. If I won the lottery I'd buy 100 bikes that were way better than me, and I'd get a hard-on riding all of them even with a complete lack of skill and finesse. Want us all to be riding adequate machines? F&%k adequate, f&%k capable and f&%k utility as a be-all and end-all. Smash them with the hammer of acceleration lust, of corner rapier and body beautiful. She may be difficult sometimes, uncomfortable when using it on the motorways like some kind of piss-filled corpse mobile taking the mentally retired on a tour of the public toilets of lower Saxony.
If it doesn't blow your skirt up then it's not worth having.
The bike in the first place is an irrational choice, don't go spoiling it by getting all beardy." -Gregtrx from

I agree with you in essence.
Personally, I can't stand dual sports and dirt bikes, and don't have much patience for the Harley crowd, but I don't mind cruisers and tourers, or sports tourers.
But, i can understand why those other bikes float other people's boats, and I let them live their lives while I enjoy mine.
Not everyone wants a Ducati.
Not everyone wants a sport bike.
Not everyone wants a motorcycle.
Good for them.
The main thing is that when I open my garage door, I get to choose what I want to pilot that day.

Heiio, Smitch...
How is the new job?, I 've got to agree with you about motorcycle choices, I have alway's thought that too much power and too much speed are a good thing, and if the machine dosn't scare the s**t out of you occasionally, it's a toilet.. as One becomes comfortable with increased skill level' you adjust accordingly. Not all people think like this, too bad for them, but We can't belittle each other about personal choices either. as long as a persons happy with their world great.. just don't try to change mine!! Where do you find the "performance bikes" mag? sounds like a good read, I also get bored with Our stateside offerings. Well, hope you and Family have a good Easter.. [moto]

Sean,
Here is a great quote that used to be on the cover of the Ducati International Owners Club every issue. DIOC was what kept us Ducati guys going when there was nothing from the factory or anywhere else. We got a newsletter several times a year and we were happy. Here it is, probably not new or original but it said: "Motorcycles transport the body, Ducatis transport the soul.
Good on ya mate.

The new job is going fine so far guys, thanks for asking. KRJ, you can get Performance Bikes at Barnes and Noble or Borders. Other good British mags include T.W.O. (Two Wheels Only) and BIKE. At $8.95 to $9.95 they aren't cheap, but there is so much more substance than our American Mags, which are basically just adverts for all the new models coming out.

Thank's Smitch, I found a "Classic Racer" mag. at the Hastings in Canon City, darn good read, lots of '70s history. Next time I'm in Springs I'll check out Your reccomendations. The Europeans are so much more "in it" than here. amazing amount of dedication and interest. It's also fun trying to learn the wording for things !!
