620 / 695 Oil Cooler Aftermarket....
«

Okay Folks,
We now have a finished prototype of the 620 / 695 aftermarket oil cooler from H Competition. I do however need some input from the owners of these bikes. I have the option of routing the lines aka S2R style (one on each side), or the M1100 style (both lines on the same side). We have finished the preliminary testing and everything seems to be working. We rode in 99F weather today. I am still awaiting the final temp data to see if we need to route any additional air to the cooler, but I think we should be good as it is the same cooler the 696 uses. Here are the pics of the working prototype...

Nice. Any ballpark on street price yet?

It would definitely look better with both lines run behind the front exhaust header and up the left side of the engine.

Agreed. I don't like to see any lines cross over the belt covers.

doesn't the OEM cooler have the lines running from the underside of the unit rather than from the top? I'd kind of prefer that as well personally.

To answer the questions, the price of the cooler will be just under $400 from our retailers. As far as the lines, it seems most people like the routing like the 696 / 1100. The lines for the OEM 695 run to the top of the oil cooler. Its not really a good idea to feed the lines from underneath as our engineer pointed out, you can more or less get an air bubble in the cooler and lose a large amount of efficiency. Ducati does not include have a true scavenging system like a dry sump on a race car. If you have a pump for scavenge and for pressure, you can run a cooler upside down with no ill effects. It is better to have gravity help your oil return....

+1 to the oil cooler lines on the left side of the motor.

I think it would look good if you ran it vertically, inlet on top, to keep the look of the bike narrow.

It looks great and I'm increasingly interested as summer approaches quickly. I like the vertical idea with the lines running on the left side of the engine. Any estimate on the availability? Also, excuse my ignorance, but the DP oil cooler kit includes a valve cover and a flapper valve, does this kit require the same? How much increased heat dissipation are we to expect? Thanks.

As far as we can tell, the bike is staying at 240 or below. Before he was seeing anything from 270-290. The kit will come with the flapper valve and we have a valve cover mod / work around. The kit will bolt right up, no grinding or weird fabrication. I will look at some options for a vertical design as well. The kit will be offered in both the lines on either side or on the left side. The kit will be available in 2 weeks from Motowheels. Maybe Ryan can chime in (the 620 owner).

I had recently bought a used oil cooler off ebay. It came with the all the connectors and lines. But I still have to locate the valve cover to bolt the cooler on. What kind of mod/workaround do you have? Would you sell just the mod/workaround, insteading of the whole kit?
Thanks,

that looks like a great future mod. Do you know where we can order it from?

Thanks,
The mod we use are spacers in the valve cover recess and then mount a frame around the oil cooler that sits on top of the valve cover. If you have the regular style cooler, you would have to fab a frame around the cooler and do the same. The existing frame tabs would then have to be removed. The least amount of work would be to probably buy the valve cover piece and the hardware that goes with it.

The kit is available from MotoWheels and will be ready to ship in 2 weeks. They are a board sponsor and have a link on the forum.
