Unfortunately, you are both wrong. Those screw holes are meant for exhaust gas testing of each cyl individually...
Ok! So what effect (if any) would there be on the bike if those screws are removed?

Honestly, I don't know. But I'm sure it would add a lot of additional noise. Whether it would sound good or not, I don't know either...

Yap, it's definitely too noisy for me - that's why I've bought as second set of bolts - drill a small hole through them, and see how that sounds.

Are you seriously considering leaving open holes in your header pipes to get more noise? That's crazy! Follow the instructions in the earlier post on how to modify your existing cans and you'll be pleased with the results. You can even shorten them for more sound. There are countless threads around about how to "core" your stock pipes, and there used to be a guy on here (Strati?) that did them on an exchange basis for reasonable money. I've done a few and it's fun and relatively easy. Ship me yours and I'll do 'em cheap. Whatever you do, don't run the bike with open holes in your header pipes.

makes sense seeing as how my pipes have those plugged up bits, and it's aon 05.
so where does the O2 sensor go?

I'm still plenty certain they stick in in that hole on the 695, at least... even if that wasn't the original intent.

That hole is too small for the O2 sensor...

Yap, I'm seriously considering it, for the following reasons.
1. I'm going to shorten my pipes, but not core them per se - a little increase in volume and tone, but not too much: don't need the attention from the police.
2. removing and drilling the screws is a fast, cheap, ultra easy mod. I don't know if it'll work, but I'll find out when my bike comes back. The attraction for me is that you wanna be noisy - drilled screws in. Puttering around suburbia - stock screws in: it takes all of two mins.

I think just drilling holes in those caps might result in a high pitched whistle instead of the sound you may be looking for....

Found a picture of where the stock 695 O2 sensor goes.
This was taken after I put on the Termis, but before I had the shop put on the new ECU and replace the O2 sensor with the plug.

At least the 1K has it on the udder where it can read a mix of both cyl. But maybe that's the problem...

Drilling holes in your header pipes will certainly make noise, and also likely reduce power. The physics behind this are too long and boring to explain here, but it is the reality. You may also find it creates a lean condition that will result in backfiring on decel, among other things, and could even be harmful to the engine. This experiment could cost you more than slip-ons if you're not careful.
