problem with the car is first its an automatic, a true sports car should at the very least have an automated clutch actuated by paddle shifters, and then as an option have a proper manual, afterall what is the point of an automatic?  that takes all the fun out of the car experience.

second, the car is way too heavy, like all benz its too heavy, they need to actually make that inot what it should be a stripped down car for true enthusiasts that weighs maybe 2800 pounds tops

Uh, it's probably because an automatic is easier to control electronically, thus preventing idiots from beating on it wrong. Also, the automatic in that thing probably shifts faster than people can move.

A *true* enthusiast would care more about performance than if he got to play with a shifter or not.

It's light-it goes 0-100km/h in 3.8. That is an enthusiasts car.

If only they didn't come with a slushbox as the only transmission. I want to row my own, so I'd take the M3 first.

Why is everyone down so much on auto trannies?

I was always a "row-your-own" kinda guy too.

As technology progresses, you are going to see fewer and fewer of them.  Heck in some applications, they are the slowest selling models.

I gotta tell you guys, the 8-spd auto in the Lexus IS-F is butter smooth, with quick and precise shifts (and that was in "auto mode" - I don't think I could get quicker shifts using the paddles).  Not to mention, that car is wicked quick, scary fast and has a nasty exhaust note!  [thumbsup]

Yeah, take a look at the VW DSG. It's shifts in 100miliseconds. If you can do better than that, you should be driving for a living...

320K is way out of my price range. That's like the down payment on a house in Marin. Or almost what a house costs in my neck of the woods.

I think I'm just going to fix my 79 BMW 320i & drive the lowly E320 wagon around.

BTW the manual/automatic in the E320 has made me a halfway convert to automatics. It's not a bad compromise at all.

It's 1870 kg...that's over 4k lbs.

A Murcielago LP640 is 1650 or roughly 400 lbs less WITH all wheel drive for the same money....faster quarter mile also.

Plus you can't park a Lambo next to some trophy wife who has what looks like the same car as you without a body kit.

No one said it was the best enthusiasts car. I'm just saying no one buys a car that fast because they like to go slow.

That's true, but to me it's not as much fun. That extra .2 seconds to 60 looks impressive in a magazine article, but to me it's boring to drive.

Of course, I'm also a major league control freak, so that may also account for my preference.

That only pertains to Ducati's.  ;)

if they made ferraris and lambos that on teh outside looked sick but only did 0-60 in 5 seconds but cost $17000, we'd buy those too and ride to startbucks talkin about soul trr uusss t me.

The SL65 is lots of fun.   :D Even with the automatic, it's a beast to be able to put all the power to the ground.  So I would imagine the black series with the fixed roof to be a whole lot of fun, since it's more rigid than the convertible.
