Here's another far more likely candidate for a new cruiser:

interesting design. wonder how that would play into the usual fleet replacement plan for municipal vehicles.

i wouldn't say it's far more likely.  it's far better, but whether budgets will be used to revamp fleets is a different story (and if the company will float long enough to sustain that critical mass).

It's cool but actually highly unlikely one will ever see actual patrol duty. Too expensive.

Just like the larger governments, the smaller ones will typically go with the lowest bidder. I'm sure that Chevy and Ford, hell even Dodge with the Charger sold the vehicles at a loss just to get them out there and seen.

Most smaller agencies piggyback onto larger agencies purchase agreements. In the end it's all about the lowest bidder.

Check out NYPD's new unit:

That Altima looks like a rent-a-cops' car.

one of the guys i used to train with is a state trooper. he told me that if i ever saw a bright yellow mustang sitting at the top of a service ramp on the PA tpk that i should either floor it and hope they get caught in traffic or make the guy upset and just pull over right away.

it was a purpose built car meant to snag people going 80 and above.

the township where i work has a couple of blacked out chargers. they look super bad ass and cool.

those are pretty amazing vehicles.  Here's an article I read on CNN a couple months ago http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/03/23/high.tech.cop.car/index.html?iref=newssearch

one thing I never thought about and you can see it in one of the pictures, the front seats are designed with a recess for the officer's utility belt.  The seatbelts in the rear seat are designed, i read, to accommodate cuffed suspects.  And the rear seat belts buckle on the outside.  cool stuff.

good choice going diesel.  those things will last forever.

It would be better if instead of "STOP" the LED readout said, "RUN, PLEASE!"
Thoughts? It's a rendering on another site that I saw today. Looks pretty nasty to me (in a good way).

Reminds me of the days of the Mustangs:

They meant business in those days!!

...followed by "I DARE YOU!"
